How many TV/movie murders have you seen?

I wish I understood human lust for murder. It seems the biggest 'entertainment' genre in the world!

Why?
You are absolutely right RR. I have wondered that very thing. The best I can come up with is that when it's reality (News headlines), we recoil a bit in shock and sometimes fear if it happens near us. However, when it's framed in something we understand is non-reality, then our brain doesn't treat it the same.

We begin to wonder how they went about it, was it justified, or self-defense, what drove them to do it, are they going to get away with it, what would I have done in that situation, did they deserve it, was it a situation that just took a bad turn, were they insane, how was it discovered?

Sometimes we are often intrigued by the investigation, and courtroom cleverness. How did the prosecutor go about proving it (Forensics and uncovering evidence)? With murder mysteries, was it someone you wouldn't have suspected?

I think in our minds we judge each portrayed crime of murder and are fascinated by how it plays out. There is a lot to ponder. Maybe in some strange way it helps us to understand our humanity and society. When it's framed in fantasy, our mind seems to realize that no one is really a victim. We eventually turn off the TV, or change the channel, and no one really dies.

Where it crosses the line for me is: I don't need to see all the graphic blood splatters, or a dismembered head, etc... I have enjoyed many westerns, many sci-fi's, and murder mysteries without needing that to convince me of what just took place. Why someone would desire that element gives me a bit of pause. I don't see it as cool. JMO

Good point, when I seen m

Good point, when I seen my first crime scene in person it was totally different and unsettling. A robbery and murder at the store I frequent.

When nothing else seems on, I go to the Investigation Discovery channel. All murder 24/7.
This was something I used to watch frequently, but it became too much.
I would not be able to count them! I love police, law, mystery, and crime shows/movies. Investigation Discovery channel is my favorite channel. Homicide Hunter with Joe Kenda (my favorite detective), People Magazine Investigates, Evil lives here, Fear Thy Neighbor, Web of Lies, Swamp Murders, See No Evil, Disappeared, etc...
On regular programming, I watch Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order Criminal Intent, and Law & Order Organized Crime. Also Chicago PD, 20/20, Dateline and 48 hours. There are others too on Netflix, Hulu, etc...but I do not want to bore you!😉
The only thing that could convince me to watch the Investigation Discovery Channel again, even if I haven't in a long time, is Joe Kenda. He's my fave, too. I enjoy seeing how he gets the perps, and he's entertaining to watch.

@Bella Joe Kenda is one of my favorites also. "Oh my!" I liked Murder Chose Me, but don't see it anymore.

I agree, it can become too much to take if I watch a lot of it.

Some murder mystery shows seem to always take place in the same small town, and there is a show every week.
At some point you wonder who in their right mind would want to live there.

DW has a T-Shirt....

Blood stains are red
Ultraviolet lights blue
Seen so many CSI shows
They will never find you

As for me I have personally been involved with dozens of murders, a couple I know were murders and ruled suicides.
I actually pointed out one that the LEO was calling an accident (wife run over) and they ended up getting a confession from him.
Worst was 4 shot including 2 5 YO children. Add the accidents, suicides and others, I've probably handled near 1000 dead bodies.
Seeing them on TV is not entertainment.

Bobcat, do you remember the episode of the Avengers where a small town would rent itself out for murderers to do in their victims? So far I haven't suggested this to my town council during any of their monthly meetings when the public is asked if they have any fund raising ideas.

Ha ha. No, I haven't seen that, but I am a big fan of innovative thinking, and if it works, it ain't crazy.

Yes, that's true. But I am more amazed that every victim had a smile that "lit up a room", had a "promising future", never J-walked even once in his/her life, and was "the nicest person anyone could every meet!" Wait a minute! Isn't there a thread about that somewhere?

Whew! If I ever go to live in the US I'll be sure to find a place in Eastern NC.
