Do you talk to strangers?

That is exactly what I thought when I first came to live in Lancashire. A woman sat next to me on a bus and started chatting, and I thought she must be crazy. I soon realised that it's normal behaviour here.

As a northerner, when I moved to the south of England, I found that I almost needed a letter of introduction before I could speak to a local.
It's lovely being back 'north of the border'.
 
when I finish my weekly shop in WW - I have to wait for my limo to arrive and pick me up - so I sit on a guards stool inside and chat to a lovely WW checker who assists those who can't handle the teller-less machines for the indepedent shoppers!! I have some wonderful chats but she is often called away but will always return and continue the conversation exactly where cut off..................so much fun and we both have a jovial disposition - I can easily spot the tramps askin for money - small town - we know them all!
 
Yes, many times.
Many times, for the 20 year I worked International, on long haul International Flights while seated - I would usually always say hello to the seat mate and we might talk or not. Had some very interesting talks - some of the flights was 12 hour so....

In retirement I still will talk to folks nowadays but it is not as much as in years before. Alot depends on where the encounter occurs, e.g., in a grocery store shopping we visit regular with folks vs a guy coming up to me while I'm pumping Gas - not so much, and Texas is an Open Carry State...so there's that.... ha ! šŸ¤ 

I was and am careful about what I would share with folks.
 
A few months ago, when I left a local specialty store, there was an old guy outside about to get into his car. He had two big dogs in the backseat and they had their heads out the window in a very friendly attitude. I stopped and commented to the man about his dogs and that started a conversation which lasted about 15-20 minutes. He seemed a nice person and I enjoyed visiting with him in the parking lot (and petting his dogs!).

A few days later, I stopped back into that store and asked the owner, who knows me well from previous business we have transacted, about the man and he said he stops in there a couple of times a week just to talk. I look for that car in the parking lot now when I drive by there; wish I had exchanged contact info, maybe to just meet for coffee and conversation. We obviously have three things in common: dogs, hobby, and perhaps a desire for a new friend?
 
Sure I do, all the time. I usually don't start conversations but I enjoy interesting conversations with different people. Good way to learn new things and different cultures.

I was on a long haul from Germany talking and drinking with a guy who I found out was a drummer for a famous rock band. Years later I struck up a conversation in California with Jazz Sax player Kenny G who was just starting out and let me sit in on a private jam session outside at his Big Sur beach house.

these are golden moments in a way - always to be treasured? - I once lived a stones throw away from george harrison and ringo starr but never did meet them - big suburbs out there!!
