Why does my house feel cold at different times of day

I'm not Michael, but yeah, even when it's overcast, the sun still gives off UV radiation... goes right through the clouds. That's how we can get sunburns even on those days.
That's part of it I believe. Air pressure also drops at night, and likely the humidity level as well. Thinner air feels colder because it has less molecules to hold heat. So even though you're indoors it's hard to totally escape the changes night brings.

I always feel chilly for an hour or 2 after Supper...especially my hands and arms. It appears that more of my "blood flow" goes toward the belly, and less to the extremities. I keep a nice blanket near the recliner, and after supper, I cover up for an hour and watch the TV. Eventually, things go back to normal.
Is exactly what happens, Don.

@hollydolly and any others wondering about temperatures in different areas and rooms in their residence ought consider purchasing a multi remote sensor weather temperature appliance. I own a 4-channel Ambient Weather WS-10 and use it a great deal to monitor and adjust indoor temperatures. I have one sensor outside my front door, one in my living room at floor level and another at the ceiling on the stairs, and one upstairs in bedrooms. There are now many other comparable products.

Holly, the sun radiates heat whether it's cloudy or not. When there's dense cloud cover, warmth from radiation is significantly reduced, but it still filters through and transfers heat to the earth.

The sun's radiation doesn't orbit the earth, so when the sun sets, it's heat-generating radiation doesn't travel around to the dark side, and, even though it's closer, the moon doesn't generate enough radiation to warm the earth at all.

I have my thermostat on 76 in the winter and I still feel cold, even though (today) I'm wearing an undershirt, regular shirt, and once in awhile I put a light jacket on.

In the summer, I have the thermostat set on 80, and I'm comfortable, but most people probably wouldn't be, so if I'm expecting company, I lower it to 74.

My body temperature is never the normal 98.6. It usually runs about 97.5.

That doesn't really answer the question, but I wonder if it's partly due to how our bodies react to the cold as we get older.

Our thermostat is set at 65 all year round and I rarely ever feel cold. We have a wood stove going during the winter months which brings up nice dry heart.

A thermostat set on 65 in Canada year 'round might be okay, I don't know, but when most of our days in Texas ranged from 100 - 112 degrees this past summer, the air conditioning would never turn off, and the electric bill would be astronomical, not to mention the wear and tear on the a/c compressor, which is very expensive to replace. Eight years ago, I paid over $4000 for a new one.

I have been saying all through this thread..I have these...(y)

You say you are colder later in the evening. That could be a clue. You are probably less active too. When we move around we feel warmer, so much so we can work up a sweat, but there is none of that at rest.
really..it's not that... I get up in the mornng..it says for example..55 deg.... it doesn't feel cold, in fact it feels quite warm, so I go downstairs open the kitchen door..open the windows a little.. it feels pleasant...

I don't necessarily have to do anything all day except be here at my desk...

At 7pm just a rough time..but after dark.. the temp still states 55 or thereabouts degrees.. but now I'm significantly colder.. by the time it gets to midnight and it's 55 deg approx..I'm really cold.. shivering sometimes... My bed is frezing, my pillowcases are freezing.. the Interior doorhandles are freezing ..the toilet seat is freezing.....and before anyone says it.... I don't leave the windows open more than half an hour in winter

My house felt that way last night, even though the temperature was the same it felt like I was at the north pole, even inhaling felt like I was breathing in ice cold air. I theorized my metabolism was doing something screwy and I got on the treadmill for ten minutes and after that I felt fine.

yes but mine is like this every night..of winter... in summer it actually gets hotter inside as the day goes on...

If it's not anything suggested by anyone here, the only thing left is that you are getting old. Welcome! :)

@hollydolly
Same thing happens here. Temp remains the same; most times it is comfortable but several times during the day I feel cold. Check the thermometers and nothing has changed. It's just me. I believe it is your body doing something else: digesting food (always cold after a meal), regulating blood pressure, responding to activity level (brain, gut, liver, kidneys, heart), etc. The human body is truly an amazing thing and there is still much we do not know.

I just treat the symptoms.

I am colder in the evening than my husband so I think it is a health problem for me as I have several health problems. I hope you stay well, hollydolly and it isn't a health problem.

Folks. I am not a cold person. As I've said several times here..i'm perfectly warm during the day in winter with no heating on and just wearing layers.

My question is if the Temperature remains the same, why is it that not only do I feel much colder in the evening, but that everything in the house is colder. Door handles, toilet seat... everything...so clearly the temperature is dropping quite drastically and yet it doesn't show on the hygrometer.

Right now it's 59 deg in my house..I'm not in the least bit cold... tonight after it gets dark at 4pm... the hygrometer will still show 59 deg maybe one or 2 degrees lower, but everything will be very much colder..

@johndoe. ... jeez, do you think everything is down to getting old... I'm not old, I'm in my 60's... look to my avatar do I look old... ?

Sorry about the old comment. I made the cardinal mistake of mentioning age to a woman. I sincerely apologize. I myself took a long time to face up to it, but at 82, I had no choice.

Less active in the evening + energy going to the stomach to digest dinner = evening chills.

My husband calls it "pasta belly chills" as it is more pronounced after a 'carby' dinner.

It must be something inside your home that makes it colder, maybe have a tech with your energy company come and see if they have a reason. Otherwise, I guess it will just be cold for you, sorry.

lol..how does that effect my interior door handles, or my toilet seat..or any number of objects in my house that get freezing to the tough in the evenings ?:ROFLMAO:

Well there's got to be some reason it happens...but it only happens in winter..In summer it gets hotter in the evnings...so I'm wondering if it's something to do with the Cavity Wall insulation
