How is your day Today? Chat about your plans and achievements 2025....

A productive day. Stopped at Town Hall and left my tax payment in the drop box. Filled gas tank on car. Had appointment with ophthalmologist. Stopped at the bank to exchange lots of coins into folding money. Paid fuel bill. Balanced checkbook. Going to a deceased viewing this evening.

However, I still didn't get my watch repaired. I had planned on going there after seeing the doctor, but I was out of his office by 9am and the watch shop doesn't open until 11am. Just didn't feel like hanging around for 2 hours when I had other things to do.

It was bright but cold this morning so, I wrapped up and went out. I don't think I have ever felt so cold! despite my winter clothes, I was absolutely freezing! The good thing was that not many people were out so I was able to get the errands done quickly before I jumped on the bus and went home. It's so cold, I wouldn't be surprised if it snows overnight. ☃️:)

Yes I absolutely agree, it's been so cold today that I have had the central heating on all afternoon , just turned it off now at 8pm.... to try and save the cost going through the roof... but in all honestly it had to be on today.. either I would freeze or the pipes would

Finally time to rest. Up at 4 am as usual. Couldn't eat breakfast because I had PetScan. Then grocery shopping and I don't drive so it was about a 4 mile walking day. 14 degree weather, but I love cold weather so it was a good day.
wow...4 mile walk ?.. was any of it uphill... ?

I live in a hilly area, so a 4 mile walk for me would necessitate walking a mile of it up a 15% gradient hill

i hope your tests prove negative for you..

Some uphill but mostly even. However the tests results are terrible. Fast spreading cancer in several parts of my body. I just fought prostate cancer last year and was hoping to a relaxing 2025. The doctor informed me just awhile ago.

Oh that's bad news , I'm sorry you're having to go through it . MY ex husband is in the process of recovering from Prostate cancer... and he has other issues... so I know a little of what you've been through, but to have to face fast growing cancers must be terrifying

Today I had a fitting for a new blazer, my wife came along with me, she had a vintage, 1930's style, ladies suit pattern which the tailor is keen to make. My wife could make it but her surgery recovery means minimal time in her studio. I told her that this was Christmas present to her and she's happy to have a tailor make it.
My blazer will be ready in a week or two. Watch this space.

SoCal Edison shut off our electricity for 50 hours as fire prevention. It felt like living in the Dark Ages, but now we are back to civilization. It was also a preparation for the San Andreas Earth Quake long overdue in our area. It splits the Pacific Tectonic Plate (Los Angeles) from the North American Plate (further inland.) This earth quake will be much worse than the current wildfires.

During the last two nights, the outside temperature never fell below 43F degrees, the house temperature stayed at 64F at night, while the dogs kept my bedroom 5 degrees warmer. The daytime temperature was pleasantly in the low 70ties.

I am just about sending an email to the California Public Utilities Commission:

"On a map, I saw that our area is designated as a “High Fire Danger” region. That is probably the reason why SoCal Edison shut off our electricity during a high Santa Ana Wind activity from January 8 to 10.

"Around August 2023, Edison contractors fireproofed the electricity poles, or replaced the wooden poles with fiberglass ones. Also, the copper wires were replaced with insulated wires that supposedly could not start a fire. Am sure customers had to pay for the improvements with higher electricity bills. I didn’t mind.

"But I am upset that, despite having supposedly a fireproof electricity network, our electricity was shut off anyway. Can you kindly ask SoCal Edison to explan this apparent inconsistency?"

Did you ever have such an inconvenience, and how did you handle it?

36,000 acres torched in 7 LA fires --- Damage from LA-area wildfires estimate: $135B-$150B
Gov. Gavin Newsom Invites Donald Trump to California amid wildfires

... more than 100,000 Californians have lost [house insurance] coverage since 2019 [due to fires are becoming too expensive for insurance companies] Economic loss from LA wildfires could reach $150B: Report

More than 36,000 acres have been burned in total as wildfires continue to rage across the Los Angeles area, and at least 10 people have died. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said Friday that 153,000 residents are still under evacuation orders, and 16,000 are under evacuation
warnings ..... Biden also announced additional resources for California, including 400 federal firefighters, more than 30 helicopters and planes, eight C-130s from the Defense Department that are equipped to suppress wildfires and 500 ground-clearing personnel. https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-ne...ce=ktla.com&utm_medium=newsnation-cross-brand

The Palisades Fire already is the most destructive in Los Angeles history, with at least 1,000 structures burned. [seven fires are burning currently in Los Angeles County; the largest is only 3% contained as of today]

Conflicting reports and data keep changing and may not always be accurate. But it appears that perhaps as many as 10,000 houses may be lost.

It's all rain now, and the wind has started. We expect to lose power. Our utilities are underground, but all it takes is for a transformer to go out. Oy.

On a cheerier note, for some reason SS has decided that my benefit will be $5 more than previously stated. I only found out about it because it shows up as a pending deposit in my account. I looked at the SS website where there's a letter with today's date, but there's no explanation. The big question again is should I save, spend or invest? LOL

If the lord's willing and the creeks don't rise (as we used to say in Texas), I'll get money back after filing my tax return. Can't file until Kroger gets around to sending my W4, and the law says they only have to have it postmarked by January 31.

We have had the heating on all week, it's just too cold atm not to. Hopefully we won't have the bitterly cold weather for long. :)

Third day of my unpleasant virus sinus head cold. On average children catch 6 to 10 colds a year and adults 2 to 4. This is my first head cold in over 7 years and over decades tend to catch about 3 each decade despite working within corporate labs and offices with many others sick during winter. No sore throat, no cough, no fever, and no headaches. But am like a high capacity SNOT machine. I must have blown out enough mucus, aka snot, into Kleenexes over the last 3 days to fill several of my brain cavities so am at a lost to understand where it is all coming from. Won't be going away as soon as I'd hoped.

After catching a most unpleasant case of shingles over a decade ago, I bought 3 Avon 24 ounce nice fragrance bubble baths to sooth its itchy welts. Since then rarely bother with baths but last night spending an hour in a strawberry bubbly realm was surprsingly pleasant so another one for mr dave later this Friday.

In our area power just goes out. Mathilda, the generator, picks up with no slack. Water can be a different issue. Folks work together!

Pulled out my many hat's again. :)
Started with the electrician's hat... put a ceiling fan up outside on the Lanai with a motion sensor L.E.D. bulb so the fur babies have light when heading out the back doggie door.

Then put my mechanic's hat on and went and changed the battery in my Suzuki so I could move it and the trailer out of the way.
After that, it was time to play landscaper and pull out the tractor and level a spot in the back yard for the new canvas carport I have to put up. (it arrived today).

The time came then to put on my angry plumber's hat as I had to remove the defective on demand hot water system I installed earlier this week in the kitchen. I swear, it's getting harder and harder to buy anything new that actually works for long, no matter how much you pay for it.

Finally, I had to head out to the shop and prepare the Chevy for it's new (and hopefully correct) radiator. That too arrived this afternoon.
Oh yeah, I also made and baked a batch of my oatmeal/raisin cookies. (yummy)
