Solitary Snowy Roads, Paths & Foot Bridges Pics

Oh, that is gorgeous! Almost a rainbow effect in the sky. And the snow and ice-covered branches are so lacy!

Artscrafter on Frost...

And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

When asked once, why the repeat lines, Frost simply said it was a *Good poetic trick*.

Have you ever seen the clip of him reciting the *The Gift Outright* at Kennedys inauguration?

No, and I don't think I've read that poem. I will look in my book of his poetry and make a point to read it. I'll search for the clip too. Thanks! And I think his double line at the end is very effective in giving the impression of someone who is very weary but longs to stay where he is to enjoy the winter beauty. He knows, however, that if he doesn't get a move on, he'll never make it, either because of more snow coming or because of blacking out from exhaustion. It truly was a good poetic trick.

Thanks for sharing this. The path is so inviting, though it may really be a narrow roadway over a bridge. Either way, it makes me want to walk it as a footpath. The blue-gray of the winter sky and the copper-brown of the fence are perfect color compliments.
It was the one lane bridge that went to my house.

I saw that it was very cold that day. 🥶 He couldn't read the poem that he had intended because of the glare of the sun, so he chose The Gift Outright. I don't like it nearly as much as I do many of the others. It is free verse with no rhythm or rhyme. Some free verse, while not rhyming, does have an easily discernible flow. I could not catch a flow in this one. It seems to be strictly prose. I can see where the subject matter corresponded nicely with the development of American government and the celebration of a presidential inauguration. Thank again for sharing.

Actually, it's Blank verse. Not that I'm a know it all, I looked it up. Online sources quote it as such. Now, I am very poor at scanning a poem for meter myself, stressed or unstressed syllables. If someone asked me to scan it, forget it. Now, I do know from past study Walt Whitman wrote in free verse. I toured his home in Camden, New Jersey many years ago and also visited his grave, quite exciting.

I took "Introduction to poetry" as an Elective course in college. Partly authored by William Penn Warren. Very informative in nature. I can tell you what Iambic Pentameter is, but I'm poor at writing it, unless it just flows out, and not by know how. My poetry rhymes with mostly quatrains, A-B-A-B, with mood variances.

Thanks for sharing all of your info. It is interesting. You did with Whitman what I'd like to do with Poe's home/museum. I write what I feel as it flows out of me. I call it free verse. Sometimes, I write rhyming poetry but not nearly as often as I write free verse. I have read about several poetic formats. I have also written using the As, Bs, Cs, etc., format but not often. An exercise but too constraining for me. I also love writing Haiku. Maybe you will share some of your poetry at some of my diary posts. My first one that is live now is Birds, Nature and Pastoral Poetry. My next one will probably be for Coffee Poetry.

Ah, I toured Poe's home, the last one in Philadelphia he lived in. True story. Gave me chills. The basement was spooky. Also visited his grave in Baltimore. While in Baltimore I drove to the Poe Museum, but it was closed for the season. Walked around and took pictures.

Poe is not in the series, but I think you'd like Frosts. I should have it, but I only have Emily Dickinson's. I have also toured her home and grave.

Thank you! I saw several I'd like to listen to. I've bookmarked the link and will make time to work my way through some of them.

It has warmed temporarily here. January almost done. Don't want to think about spring. Wish I was somewhere like this. Cozy snug inside a comfortable, country home while the snowstorm remains refuse to leave. Red is so pretty against the snow, don't you think? Houses, barns, cardinals, wagons and sleds. If it was possible to make the snow scene more brilliant, they would.

Won't be long 'till I will abandon posting winter pics until next season. We're expecting some flurries and a little ice on two different days in the next two weeks. That's about all. 🙁 Like Thanksgiving and Christmas, I hate to see it go. I feel like I'm sitting on one of these benches, watching the winter season inevitably drain away, getting ready to give way to spring.

How fast March has come! Saturday will be the 1st. 😒 Snow has fallen, though, in April in unexpected places. 😮 There is always hope. This might be the last snow pic that I share this year...........might be. It's just a pretty pic that I saw somewhere. Reminds me of the heavy snows when I was growing up. Snows that are not seen anymore, to that extent, in those places. I like looking at snow on sloped and gabled roofs.
