Do you find yourself curious to find out whose voice it is in a commercial or a documentary? I can't rest and enjoy it until I at least try. Then you go, ooh, I knew that voice!

I pick up the following voices:
Ed O'Neill (modern family) don't remember the commercial
Henry Winkler on a commercial with pidgeons talking to one another.
John Goodman on some

Documentary narrators are easy to research if you get curious. But finding out who is doing a commercial is not.

Have you found a good way to confirm your commercial voice over actors names?

I'm pretty good with that and usually catch them all instantly. Maybe it comes from years of watching cartoons. I still watch cartoons.

I'm not very good at voices but I play the "where-did-we-see-that-guy?" game constantly. Or the "doesn't-he / she look like ______" game.

It drives me crazy until I can say "Oh yeah, he played the police chief on _______. I KNEW I knew him from somewhere!"
I like when I watch some old TV shows or movies and recognize someone who hadn't made a big name for themselves at the time but showed up in many more things as they got older. That's where IMDB comes in.

There are the actors who stayed very busy playing "type-cast roles". The demented old lady, the old guy who is always a prospector or owns a decrepit gas station in the desert, members of the inbred family up in the hills who are cannibals, the crotchety old man, the ditsy neighbor, etc, etc.

They'll never get much billing, but they'll make a living.

It's amazing how your brain starts sifting through it's files when you hear a voice. Sometimes hours later you suddenly get the answer and shout 'yes! That's who it is'.

A similar situation arose after I'd seen that Christmas commercial where John Travolta played Santa Claus. I really thought the actor did a great job, not knowing who it was. When I learned that it was JT, I still could recognize him. One of the nicest surprises of the season!
