Is there a place for my wife and I, living on SS?

Wichita has some nice suburbs and parts of Wichita itself are very nice. I’m surprised you haven’t found anything. My ex’s wife came into the marriage with a 1500 sq ft townhome that they used as a rental. It was nice and they just sold it and were thrilled to get 100k. You can’t buy a studio in a bad neighborhood here for that price.
It would have been fun as I fell in love with the rolling prairie of Kansas when we visited a forum friend a couple of years back. We need easy access to an airport, 3-4/br, office, open floor plan, no stairs, 3-4 car garage, gas!, brick/rock and not a fixer upper but new. My pain thresh hold is always proceeds of sale of previous house and it has worked well.
So we redid the last two things here - extra bath and vegetable garden.

Not necessarily but unless you speak the language, can deal with the food and are able to accept local ways - it works for many. The problems start with health issues especially when you rely on an expat group for day to day interaction and live in your enclave.

I have young grandchildren and I'm not going to be content seeing them once or twice a year. Also a network of friends that has taken us 15 years to build up here. Don't see a compelling reason to give that up and move to Nicaragua or wherever.

I didn’t like living in Wichita. The weather is very hot, humid and windy all the time. Winters were mild. The people were nice but tended to be very conservative so it was harder to find my tribe. I also thought it was ugly. You could have easily found everything on your wishlist including the airport.

Again - I did not find anything move in ready. Believe me those realtors tried and so did SO's employer! Last move they paid closings of both houses as part of relo package. Hot, humid, windy is no issue for me.
