What do you make for dinner?

I enjoy cooking. So does Ron. I like to have fun with meals, serve different or unusual things, and he loves that. He says we never have the same thing twice.

Not really accurate because we have our favorites, and also some quick meals when I’m tired from a day at work, so they’re simple and easy, but generally speaking dinner time is when I get to create and have fun with food!

We don’t eat much red meat, and once or twice a week dinner is entirely plant based. So I’ll cook with tofu, fish, poultry or root veggies or gourds of different kinds. There’s so much I do with acorn squash, turnips, spaghetti squash, sweet potatoes etc, that are delicious and healthy.

What about you? Do you have dinner meals on a regular rotation or is it varied? Do you eat a lot of meat? I’d love to know how you deal with dinner.

NO..I absolutely do not have meals on a regular rotation...

My ex m-i-l was a pro cook, and you wouldn't beleive it because she had the same meals on the same days every week.

Roast beast on Sunday.. then made into minced something on Tuesday.. then sardine salad on Wednesday.. even fish on fridays....it used to give me the shudders to have that kind of routine

I have favorites both old and new that I like cooking but no regular rotation. One of my big interests is to try new recipes, so I do that often. Meat... no, not really a lot. Many recipes have ground chicken, turkey, or beef in them... or chicken breast... and fish, but when it comes to "real" meat like steak, chops, roasts, etc. it's very rare here.

I really don't like cooking, except for making soup. I'm really, really good at making soup. The Spousal Equivalent doesn't consider soup a "meal". A "meal" needs meat, potatoes and a veggie, according to him. I could live on soup. On occasion, I can convince him that chili and cornbread and a salad IS a meal.

Every night, we go through the "what's for dinner?" ritual: "Whats for dinner? I dunno, what do YOU want for dinner? I don't care, what do YOU want for dinner? How about _______? Didn't we have that a couple of days ago? Well, then, what DO you want for dinner?"

Last night we had KFC. My favorite recipe (except for soup) is take-out.

This reminds me of a friend of mine from many years ago, when our kids were little. We always hung out at each other‘s houses.

One evening, when the friendship was still in its infancy and I was just getting to know her, we were talking about having something for dinner at her house and she said “Hang on a minute let me get my recipes” and then proceeded to fan out on the counter a bunch of Takeout menus 🤣🤣🤣

This was the same woman who used her oven as extra storage for her pantry overflow, and who loved to wash dishes even though she had a working dishwasher. She just used it as a drying rack once her dishes were hand washed!

She was an absolute jem! 🤣❤️

When I was in my youth, when we rode dinosaurs to work, I wouldn't have had the same meal in a month. I wanted to live life and that meant total variety. Now that I sold my dinosaur and bought a Hyundai, I eat the same things for breakfast, lunch and dinner, day after day. On days when I want to be wild, I'll switch lunch with breakfast. Believe me, nobody is more surprised about this as I am. But I'm totally happy with it.

Dinner is what I feel like cooking on any given day. It also depends on what needs to be used up or what I'm craving. DH eats anything. He has his favorites but he won't turn down anything I make.
Today is tacos with leftover cooked ground pork, onions, jalepenos, cheese on corn tortillas.
And blueberry muffins.

I cook nearly all the meals at home and try to vary them as much as possible although there is less variation in Sunday dinners. I'm making a liver casserole this evening. I know liver is an acquired taste and I've seen a lot of misinformation about it, but it's a great source of nutrients .
Oooh Ron and I love liver!! We had liver and onions with mashed potatoes and gravy two nights ago!

@Capt Lightning would you be willing to share your recipe for your liver casserole?

I usually have something prepared that only needs to be heated up like stew or stir fry. We both eat meat and lots of fruit and veggies. That's for me. Sometimes BF will buy a fresh hot rotisserie chicken which we both enjoy. I love to cook but I also still work.

Left overs are a big problem with me I want fresh , what ever strikes my fancy .
Lately I have NO fresh ideas for our meals .

Last winter I experimented with Calico beans & veggies beef soup together.
that made too much for the 2 of us.
Even thoughts of bringing the leftover soup out of the freezer hasn't appealed to me. ??
