I hear you, so is mine which has made me give up trying. To quote Debbie Reynolds, " My picker is broken when it comes to picking men"
Yep, same.I can relate, but i do fine picking male friends, its 'romantic' relationships i had trouble with. But after #3 divorce (in December of 1999 when i was 54) i decided to keep away from that till i figured some things out. By the time i did i also realized i'd lost interest in participating in romance.
No, perpetual optimist.Married two, three, four times??? Why?
A gluten for punishment perhaps?![]()
Wow, I never knew that about her! She sounded like a narcissist. If ''the love of her life'' the British star Richard Burton hadn't have been a drunk as well I would have felt sorry for him... but in truth being together stopped them spoiling another cople...
No, it was my great-aunt who was married to the son of someone famous...or rather...notorious.was that conrad hilton..her first husand ?
I've always thought she's a horror.. she stole Debbie reynolds husband and father of her kid.. who happened to be her best friend at the time...
She was kmown to be everybody's doorknob ( evryone got a turn) in Hollywood and beyond.. she was a Banshee who would pretend to have a soft gentle voice when talking in public... and she was always drunk or drugged up.. ..not surprising she made a big pal out of Michael Jackson..

That's such a sweet story! You guys are truly blessed! It only took both myself and Cindy one "Legal" marriage to learn it's a good way to waste money get hurt in the process. We both had marriages that would make a dead man cringe. So when we got together and it started to become something far beyond what most people have, when hikes on the beach turn into romantic moonlight strolls, when dinner changed from a bag of cheeseburgers and fries in Wendy's parking lot to several course meals by candle light, the subject of marriage came up. It took us all of about 10 seconds to say "No Way!"
Now just to be clear, I'm talking about a run of the mill, licensed by the county, paying taxes to be a couple type of marriage. Neither of us wanted anything to do with that. So we went to her Church and talked to the Pastor. He was willing to do an old fashioned wedding, circa Jesus's day. He said we could have a small ceremony and a "No license, no taxes, no divorce later if things don't go as planned" wedding. Which we did on Clam Beach, September 6th, 1999, where we met. I went to the beach and reserved the two campsites we had stayed in 1998.
It was quite a day. Then the Pastor and his wife minded the kids for a few days while we went on a little honeymoon. We drove up the coast and found a nice hotel in Medford, Oregon, and went up to Crater Lake National Park the next day. It was the one national park west of Interstate 25* that neither of us had been to. And it was just 250 from our house.
*I have always considered Interstate 25 to be the border of the United States and America (America is on the west side, the US is on the east side, where all the crowded states are...

Your post reminded me of a co-worker, who mortgaged her paid off home to pay for her daughter's wedding. We're talking about a huge overblown affair in the $30,000 (1980s) price range. A month later, there was an annulment, because hubby wasn't all that into women. My co-worker had to work for 20 more years to pay off the loan.I’ve never been married. Not from the lack of being asked. I’m in a common law marriage of 35 years. I consider my significant other my common law husband . I dont regret not having an expensive wedding that costs thousands of dollars. Not that they all are.
I think big ceremonial weddings are a complete waste of money. Lists are made of people the family barely knows. Weddings become like a competition. They become something to satisfy the ego, not the spirit.Your post reminded me of a co-worker, who mortgaged her paid off home to pay for her daughter's wedding. My co-worker was 49, with her home paid off. Only one keg?My co-worker was 49, with her home paid off. She wanted to retire at 50, but now, she had to work till she was 69 to pay off the mortgage.
My idea of a fancy wedding is a whole keg of beer instead of a "half" keg.
When DH son got married , he was in his middle 30’s ..he lives 6 hours drive from us in Victoria ..when we arranged to travel up to meet his wife to be , one of the first things she mentioned about the wedding was she expected us toI think big ceremonial weddings are a complete waste of money.
