Son had open heart surgery

I have friends that had both types of valves, heart and pig. Not the same person. The people with the mechanical valve often wish they would have opted for the pig valve, but they become used to hearing the clicking of the mechanical valve.

Most had the type where they don’t open up the chest cavity. The surgeons replaced the valve through the groin. However, I don’t think that’s possible if they are going to replace the Aorta.

Your son is much younger than us, so he should do fine. Rehab always takes time.

Wishing him a speedy and complete recovery..... and here's an amusing tale...
One day in the office, I bumped into a female colleague who I hadn't seen for some time. She explained that she had open heart surgery and had a valve replaced with a pig's valve. Somewhat tongue in cheek , I said, but aren't you a vegetarian? She pondered this for a moment, and said, Oh, I hadn't though of that.

Thank you, he is recovering with therapy for his chest wounds..Also monitoring his blood thinners..

Yes, they had to replace both Aorta and Valve.. He said he is already getting use to the ticking..
question Ken... how does it feel as a parent to see your child go through a lie threatening procedure ?..Most of us will no experience that ... coming also on top of mrs Ken's illness.. it must have been difficult for you..

When I was 19, I had a chest x-ray done so that I could increase an insurance policy. They saw a shadow on the film and said they wanted to biopsy one of the glands. I was told it would only be a one-inch cut on my chest. When I woke up, I saw I was cut almost a full circle around my right breast. The surgeon said he couldn’t see any tumors or cysts, so he continued to follow the aortic artery to see where it went.

They learned that I have a rare right-sided aortic artery, which is no big deal, but they did way more cutting than I was prepared for. When my parents saw what they did, they were not happy about it and I guess they told the surgeon that once he didn’t see anything, he should have quit.

My one aortic artery comes up the left arm before entering the chest cavity and then it goes around my esophagus and wind tube before going into the heart. I was only down for 2 weeks.

Good luck to your son, but a lot of these types of operations are fast becoming routine. My friend had his valve replaced the Monday after the first of the year and was only in the hospital overnight.

It was not easy...When we saw him, in the recovery room ,with all different tubes and wiring in his body we almost lost it..

No, open heart through the chest..
That’s what I thought. My neighbor and friend is a doctor, but his specialty is kidneys. I don’t know why he dies this, but he likes to talk shop around me, even though I have no inkling of what he is talking about a lot of the time. He was telling me about a surgery he did not long ago when he replaced a woman’s kidney, which was only about 3 inches in diameter and was done using a robot.

He said organs are very flexible, but when implanting them, it’s best to set the replacement organ into place and before connecting the arteries, etc, it’s best to just do a trial run to make sure the surgery will go smoothly. He said he took out this woman’s kidney and put in the replacement organ in under 2 hours compared to the 6-8 hours it once took.
