Does anyone hire someone to set up their computers ?

I have blinding hate for these things lol but I do use them . I still have a flip phone and had a land line till last year .

I have 2 of them and my main one in my tv room after 20 years stopped working so going to buy a new key pad as think screen is still good . My 2 daughters are in another state so considering going to a known computer sales place to install it , not sure if I can name the place here .

I am very good at pretty much fixing / installing anything but not computers .

I feel your pain. I am about as computer illiterate as it gets.

I'm waiting for one of my kids to come by and set up an app on my phone for me as we speak.

I've never had a desktop. Just laptops. But I think Best Buy's "Geek Squad" does that sort of thing.

I've used the Geek Squad to not only set up my laptops but to replace the hard drive in my current one. From my experience, they do a great job.

I’ve always been able to manage on my own.

Most new equipment is pretty straightforward plug ‘n’ play that a tweenager should be able to set up for a couple of bucks.

IMO the time to seek professional help is before you make the purchase. Someone that can help match your needs and abilities to the equipment.

I did hire "Geeks to you" to set up this new laptop. No way could I have done it.
Cost was $150 an hour. Well worth it. Took 1 hour and 15 minutes. Charged me for 1 hour.
They came to my home.

I use Geek Squad when I want to remove everything from a laptop I can no longer use. Save everything on an external hard drive for later if I need something from previous years.

Thanks to everyone . I decided to go with Geek Squad because the chances of me setting it up are zero and though my neighbors are nice I rather not bother them .

I already have the modem so will buy a new screen and keyboard there today and set up the Geek Squad installation .

I like emails , youtube and few forums while watching tv , lol and afraid to unplug move , reset this computer which is in kitchen .

It might be a good idea to follow each cable and tag them or draw a diagram while everything is working properly.

It also might be a good idea to buy a can of compressed air and give the modem a good cleaning ! Or have someone do it for you.

I've been building my own desktop computers since the late '90s. Laptops really can't be built from scratch, but I've upgraded the processor, RAM and hard drive in many laptops.

I opened the case the other day to clean it (turned off and unplugged). Now the power and HD activity lights don't work. Everything else seems OK.

I have a man who does computer setting up and repairing who comes to my house. He has set up all my computers and fixes problems with them. It is so much easier than having to take it in or do ourselves, which would be a disaster.

No, I don't like anyone even using my equipment. I have been doing it myself since the early 90s when I bought my first desktop. Although I started learning computers way back the 70s.

I just updated Windows 11. No problems. I've been reading those things for weeks.

Love NJ used to go to border of the Pine Barrens years ago had a NJ permit to collect Dwarf sunfish which are abundant but as you know you can not collect in the actual Pine Barrens so I would go by outside canals / ponds .

Winters are harsh in NJ but lots of great nature .

'' Kid '' came earlier and 1 2 3 it was easy for him , I wrote it all down including Wifi which I had no idea what it even was , sad I know .
