I buy what I want. I'll be dead a long time so why not enjoy what I like while I can.
What Products Have Priced Themselves Right Out Of Your Shopping Cart?
David, you might want to change that to pantry. The other sounds like you‘re tucking away ‘free products’ as you leave the grocery store. My panties and refrigerator is bulging with packaged food.
pantries? This long time middle class now senior person of modest means who has never had kitchen or cooking skills, eats simple easy to prepare supermarket foods. About the only time I eat red meats that I indeed very much could enjoy eating but don't due to health, is on the road at restaurants or at other's group events. I buy whatever foods I want that rarely includes anything over a few dollars. My panties and refrigerator is bulging with packaged food.
EggsMy local market is currently selling a half a dozen of eggs for $4.25.
Check out Hispanic markets. They have several brands in small containers and often a stand with very small packages in the vegetable section.Beef
Eggs
Frito's Scoops
Green Mountain Dark Magic(K cups), to name a few.
...plus many other items that the local supermarket is price gouging on.
Edit: any seasoning I buy from Amazon in a much larger quantity, for waay less per once than what the supermarket charges for a little dinky bottle.
I was at Walmart earlier and notice lots do that but I prefer to go inside granted not a good time after 2 pm and pick out my own stuff I buy less then 2o items as does my neighbor and we go in express but pickup has really taken off and that area always moving .Oh yeah... let me tell ya my egg story from just this morning.I was doing a curbside order for today. So *yesterday* I put eggs in my cart for the same $3.47 I got them for last week. Went to check out this morning and saw that IN my cart, they'd jacked the price up to very nearly $6. Nope, out they came. No omelets or hard boiled for this girl this week! Paying it wasn't a problem, but principle matters. (I do know they cost a lot more elsewhere, but it's still unusual for here.)
You're not wrong, it's from The Seven Year Itch. Marilyn plays a model who moves into an apartment above a man whose wife and son have just gone away for the summer. The man, Tom Ewell, spends the entire movie lusting over Monroe as she innocently and accidentally flirts with him. In one scene Monroe's character is naked (implied only) on a balcony above Ewell. She explains that her panties are in the fridge so that when she puts them on she will keep cool.Marilyn Monroe once delivered a line about keeping her panties in her freezer![]()

Aunt Bea, I was a staunch Hellman's fan for decades. You couldn't have told me I would buy any other brand. Several years ago when I noticed their prices going up, I decided to try Walmart's Great Value light mayo (which is the kind of Hellman's I was buying). What caught my attention was that they both had the same color tops (turquoise) but the GV price was so much better. I've been using GV's brand ever since. I wouldn't be surprised if Hellman's makes it.Nothing yet but beef and Hellmann’s mayonnaise rarely appear unless I see a manager’s markdown in the meat case or the store features Hellmann’s as a loss leader.
It’s not too difficult to shop the dips ‘n’ deals for a single person but I can’t imagine shopping for a family these days.
Like you and @Veronica I usually buy whatever I want. I have no qualms about spending money if I want something. But some things I won't buy on GP. It probably makes no sense but I've splurged on items while putting a cap on what I'll pay on other things. For instance, several years ago I paid $2.50 for one small piece of chocolate (like what comes in Valentines candy boxes), because I was curious. It was sugar free Kahlua flavor and I'd never had it before. So far nothing, if I want a particular item in the store, I buy it. Prices have been skyrocketing for years now, I have begun to accept it. I don't live a fancy lifestyle or buy a lot of expensive clothes, so at least I can enjoy the simple things in life, like good food. I don't cut corners with my pets either.
I also buy what I want, but I keep an eye on prices and know where to find the best deals. For example, the other day I was at a local farm market and saw Delicata squash for $2.49 per pound. That was too expensive, and I knew I could get it for a lower price. Two days later, I purchased it at Wegmans for 99 cents per pound.Like you and @Veronica I usually buy whatever I want. I'm also aware that I save enough on most items to be able to pay the increased prices of others...but like I said...I won't pay increased prices on certain items, just on GP. And I definitely spare no expense for my cat.Someone on here remarked that I spoil her.
Had a bit of a laugh reading this, as I'm not a fan of Mayonnaise. I thought I could invent my own brand and call it Hellnoman.I basically only buy Hellmann’s when at Costco. Last summer I bought a store brand that was ok and now the price of it is almost the same as Hellmann‘s.
If vegetables aren’t on special I don’t buy them.
Im glad you decided to have your protein shakes. Not getting enough protein can cause needless falls due to balance issues from lack of muscle control. It’s good to know you are doing better. They ARE expensive but worth the cost.I spend a fortune each month on Ensure Max Protein. Takes up at least $100. a month. Guess I could switch to powder, but I like the taste of Choc/Vanilla Ensure, and since I barely eat I make sure to have this protein. (((@PeppermintPatty))) urged me to get protein this way and I have felt much healthier since I started drinking at least one a day. Very expensive, Ensure Max. Not food in regular sense, but a big boost for my energy/muscle issues.
Do you have Sprouts in your area? If so keep an eye on their bulk sales. Wednesday prices of current and previous week apply. I stock up on cashews and various nuts for baking. A bit of salt and heat and a coup!e of minutes in the air dryer under strict observation.Planters Mixed Nuts used to be a normal item on my shopping list.
Now, it's just a holiday thing. Way too expensive.
I rather die than forgo butterAlmost everything we buy HAS to be on sale.
We try and stay away from most processed foods. We decide what we are going to eat depending on what’s for sale. Sometimes we pick up stuff that’s 50% off even if it’s not on our List. There’s nothing I can think of that we no longer can eat due to inflation.
Your nutritionist is right. Butter got a bad rap for years needlessly. It’s really not all that bad, used in moderation.
