Going back to pricey foods. Last year I bought about ten pounds of assorted color bell peppers when they were beautiful, in season, at the peak of ripeness and offered at terrific sale prices. Like 69¢/lb. Cleaned and cut them into chunks about 1-1/2" squares, put assortments in heavy 2 gallon zip bags and layered the bags in my freezer.

They're perfect for stir fries and other cooked meals, and no off-season prices of $2.49/lb for yellow, orange or red peppers.

Although I usually have a fresh onion or two in the pantry, I buy 8-10 when they're 3 lbs/$1.00, then chop and freeze for future use in soups, stir fries, etc.

Not much really. I used to buy Amy's brand soups and frozen meals sometimes. But they have got really expensive. I did get one can of Amy's split pea soup today at the health food store. "On sale" for $3.69. Sometimes Amy's products might be reasonable at Grocery Outlet, but not seeing them much.

Other than that, no changes really. I can cut back if needed. I've been eating less and that saves.

Bell peppers are a bit to juicy for my liking. Everything else comes out in perfect dice. I freeze on trans on wax paper then transfer into bags. A stock pot of potatoes and vegetables for soup takes minutes.
 
My favourite candies, they’re similar to a jujube. They’ve doubled in price. I only eat the orange and red and throw the rest away. Even if they’re not good for me, I miss them.
 
The government says inflation has slowed, and it did up until a few months ago, but it's rising again. The government has an idiosyncratic way of collecting the data. They have a basket of goods they use to extrapolate from, but they change what's in the basket to better reflect actual inflation. Yeah, Right! Does anyone think maybe the reason they change what is in the basket to make the data look better?

I have my own idiosyncratic way of determining inflation. My basket is limited to the things I buy regularly. When I see prices going up, I see inflation, and I've been keenly aware of prices going up in the last couple of months. I think the government can monkey with the data only for so long, and I predict in the months ahead that the inflation we are experiencing right now will start to show up in the news.

A few months ago, the Fed was under pressure from Wall Street, which was saying interest has to come down or there will be a recession. I think the Fed was too quick to jump before they even reached their inflation target. Like it or not, recessions are as much a part of the economy as economic booms.
 
Not very much, I'm just being more aware of better deals and changing brands. I have slowed or stopped those expensive fun speciality items like cakes and donuts.
 
Not priced out in terms of, I could afford it.

But Salmon. I used to eat it daily, but where I am it's approaching double the price I used to pay. As I say, I can afford it, so I'm just punishing myself, and I do miss it. But prices are ridiculous.
 
I used to like a little Ribeye steak once a week. But beef has gotten so high that I don't often buy it now. I can afford it, but the price seems ree-dick! Ground beef is still halfway reasonable. But pork cuts are just about as good, and it's cheaper than beef.
 
Moving back to my first childhood home at 47 Acacia Street on Clearwater Beach Florida.

My parents bought that house for $2,000 when they moved down from New Jersey right after WW2. Zillow now shows it's value at $596,400.

Thanks, but I'm not a gadget person. I can chop an onion exactly how I want it in well under a minute. As I said, I cut the peppers into one and a half inch squares. By the time I've washed, cleaned the seeds and removed the ribs and stems from the peppers, it's literally another 30 seconds to cut them up.

I only bother breaking out my food processor when making hummus or mixing dough for one of the Christmas cookies I make each year. Period. I gave away the mandolin I'd been gifted. I find gadgets a royal pain to store and clean. A cutting board and knife? Easy-peasy on both scores.

Certain household chores relax me. Laundry, for one. Also chopping fruits and vegetables. Baking is yet another, but I resist the temptation to indulge that one too frequently.

Dusting or vacuuming? Very little happiness springs from them.
 
With everyone talking about the price of eggs lately, I couldn't believe it today when I saw they were $10!! And not even organic! Which is what I usually buy for eggs bc the non-organic use all kinds of antibiotics on their chickens. So I spent the ten bucks bc I eat eggs a lot.

I bought my live ducks for less than that. Duck eggs are lovely, less watery than hen eggs. You can feed two people with just one of our goose eggs 😁
I never eat duck or goose, they’re family.
I love duck eggs...haven't any in about a year , I must get some, they are much more of a gamey taste than hens eggs.. locally we have a farm with an honesty box at the end of the lane and I got my eggs there..

Then they built 400 homes on part of the woodland behind my house in the last 2 years . and the farmer got his eggs stolen so he stopped selling, and I miss that...
