Aquariums - little slices of underwater worlds

I love fish tanks. We had a lovely one at our old house and some lovely fish in it. Unfortunately, my husband bought a lovely mermaid to put into it. The salesman said it was marble. It looked lovely sitting in amongst the rocks and the fish were very interested in it. The next morning, we came to look at it and discovered all the fish dead and the mermaid had disintegrated. It wasn't marble as the salesman said, I think it was made from marble dust. We were so disappointed. We bought it at a market and the next week he had disappeared.

I made a mermaid stand for a 65 gallon tank I had. Here is a picture of it just filled with water.

I was going for a Key West hurricane washed look on the color.
 
Yes. Brother and I had an aquarium our parents bought when we were both quite young but we weren't very good at taking care of the fish so our parents got rid of it.
 
I've had a couple ten gallon tanks in the past. Mainly different types of sharks. When my son moved into his own house, he asked if he could have them, so I said sure.

I took care of a girl's turtles for three months while she was in basic training. Those things grew to twice the size they were when I first got them. They were entertaining, though. Believe it or not, they each had distinct personalities.

Beautiful tank , reef tanks are not easy . When did you have it ?

I remember in 80s a yellow tang was less then 20 dollars and now several hundred .

My father had a Marine tank with under gravel which is archaic today , imagine yours had a skimmer which no such thing at that time and only lights were fluorescent , blue actinic was a big hit .

I keep fresh inside and outside .

Ahhh do not rule out father fish method if you ever decide to try fish again .

Consider Platys which do not need heat unless you keep your place under 65 degrees all time stay way smaller and so many colors .

I have them in yard and we get chilly nights here .

Great look you did not put anything in this tank ?

I remember think till early 80's , perhaps earlier divers would take " live rock'' from key west as no regulations and in that live rock you might get a key west pygmy octopus or baby morays .

Your bigger tank with the tang looks to also have a bicolor-angel or Damsel type in corner or I am seeing things ?

Being an unpleasant anal retentive person I suffer dearly when I go to someone's house and tacky junk and / or different color gravel .

I am a retired plumber but do stuff in community I live in and last year went to change a bathroom faucet and guy had tacky stuff and diff color gravel .

I nicely mentioned I have lots extra plants that will give him which would grow with his lighting , he said Ahh no thanks their just fish .

After leaving I had to go by anti acid and still suffer when drive by his house .

Traveling is one of the reasons why I sold my aquariums. If I settle in one place, the first thing I'll do is build another one.

Started it in 2004, had my own business which was located in the basement of my house. I had to have something worth looking at to keep me sane. I loved using a red filtered flash light when the lights were out to watch all the little creates that came out of the rocks.

Working in IT, I had a lot of the processes automated.

I shut all of them down in 2016. I was trading/bartering coral on a regular basis.

Your tanks are amazing!

This was the latest photo I could find, sadly I lost many of the digital photos. I had Fairy Wrasses and coral in the mermaid tank.

Good eye on the 180, it was a blue tang.

Your tangs got along , granted a 180 is tang size big .

In a world of real problems this is ridiculous but the only reason I have not moved out of Miami yet are the tanks .

I have smaller tanks but the 2 biggest tanks are guaranteed cracked when moving and lots fish in transport dying .

To bad you left the hobby as you know what you are doing and keeping soft and hard corals is the most difficult thing .
