Just had the "Hi! Gramma" call...

saying he was..my gran- son..had an accident..yada- yada

When I asked his name, he hung up!

Yup! šŸ‘Gotcha!

Seniors...Be careful!!šŸ˜‰
terrible co-inicdence, my daughter seems to have that same problem several times a year... she texts apparently, and says , Hi Mum..lost my phone, using my friend's phone, could you send...

Wife answered the phone a few years ago- ā€œ Hi grandma do you know who this isā€.
She said it sounded like one of ours so she named him and he said he was in trouble.
He had a few drinks and ran into a power pole and that he would have to spend time in jail if she didn’t send some money.
I used my phone and called our grandson and asked him if he had an accident.
ā€œNoā€
I told the wife I’m talking to the grandson right now and that hers is a phony call.
They hung up.
Wife was wanting to help one of ours so badly that she didn’t want to believe me at first and I said here ā€œtalk to him yourself.ā€
We are in Illinois and that grandson that she thought she was talking to lives in South Dakota.

If I get one of these, I shall have a bit of fun with the sender as I don't have grandchildren. I have had several calls on my landline from numbers I don't recognise so haven't answered. I wonder what I've missed.

I did get a few calls saying I was entitled to compensation from a road crash I was involved in. They wanted my bank details so that the money could be paid in. As I don't even drive, never mind have a car, I knew it wasn't genuine.

I have no conversation at all with telemarketers or nonsense like this as I do not want to give the opportunity to record my voice. I will answer suspect calls with a ā€œhelloā€œ in a voice not my own and as soon as I can, I hang up.

And also, they might use a recording of your actual loved one’s voice to generate an AI voice clone! https://www.npr.org/2023/03/22/1165448073/voice-clones-ai-scams-ftc

A few simple questions like....What is my birth day, or what is the name of YOUR dog, will quickly show the caller you are not taking the bait.

I once got a (landline) phone call from some young kid (boy). I don't remember what he said. I played along with him and we ended up having a fun conversation. He told me that he had fun talking with me. As far as scam calls,l usually from men, I pretend I can't clearly hear what they're saying and hang up as though in frustration. :D

Once answered my grown daughter's phone in a low voice when she was gone. Recognized the caller's voice, a guy who was very bad news. He asked for her (he sounded a bit confused) and I lowered my voice even further to sound like a man & told him she wasn't home. That ended the call. lol

I had a call a few months back and I decided to play along. He said he was calling for my grandson that needed bail money. He asked me for only $2500. I asked what was he in jail for. He said he didn’t know because he was being discharged and my grandson gave him a note with my number on it and he asked if I would call you once I was out. I told him well I didn’t know what he was in jail for so he can just sit there or call his mom and dad. Click!

My Mom got an obscene phone call one time and she was hard of hearing so she kept telling the guy to speak up cause she couldn’t understand what he was saying.
The guy got angry at her and hung up.
That’s when she figured out what he said and she said Oh! MY GOSH I THINK THAT WAS AND OBSCENE PHONE CALL!
We all had a good laugh over that.

I felt horrible when I had to say no to donating to a Police organization request. I can afford to donate to only one organization a month and want it/them to rely on receiving it every month. It is so very tough saying no to certain organizations, even though you know you don't have enough funds to do so.

Yes it feels bad to say 'no' to them, but I get through it by asking if they are a 501c3 charity and then they say they aren't, and I say I only donate to 501c3 charities.
