What would it take to get you into a new car?

My way of thinking is to buy a lease buyback, consumers a more apt to keep them in good shape so there's no extra charges when turned in to close the lease. Companies that lease are mindful of that. It's all about money.
Maybe.

But I'm pretty sure that those who lease cars are about the last ones you can expect to ever do anything but add fuel. Commercial leases (may be) another story, but I'd never go after a personally leased vehicle. The only thing worse is probably a used rental car.

Around here Rental agency vehicle have been run balls to walz, worse then like a cabbies car.

Think most who lease here have Dealership service included with them. The vehicle has a set recorded service card then at turnaround time.

I love my daughter’s Mini Cooper, but I do not think that i want a new car, there is just so much computerized stuff to deal with. Our truck is a 2000, and it still runs okay and we do not need to drive very far, plus we have AAA insurance if it should break down. I think that I would like a newer vehicle, but not one of the brand new ones.

I don't get the:

"I'm so poor"

"I'm poorer than you"

Competion at this Forum.

It's so tiring.

"If you think that browsing the internet all day
and participating in Forums is being poor,
you don't know what poor is.
You should be ashamed of yourselves."
I don't see a single statement on this thread saying or implying poverty, or suggesting "I'm poorer than you."

Not wanting to throw $50K or more at a new car isn't the same as claiming poverty.

Off lease - certified pre-owned (CPO) - comes w a factory warranty out to 100k miles, which seems is a good combo of avoiding depreciation and yet still having a substantial warranty to protect against the downside. It's a few $$ more than non-certified, but still a reasonable deal.

I suppose adding up the # of vehicles one owned the last 50 years,
maybe 20 or so, then asking ones-self, When adding up just the purchase
prices of those vehicles, did they run around the value of the home you live in?
Say around + - / $200,000 / $300,000 +?

Do I change my behavior, or do I want a new-one, more? Say 1/4 the value of your home?

Maybe some just take the Metro Link to the Airport and fly someplace cool if they want to travel some?
No insurance/fuel/parking/car payment/property taxes/license/pollution test bills either. There are
cool places to stay near the airport too. My regional airport is within 10 miles of me.

Should I change my lifestyle to be cool? Mmmmm, I never met a wealthy person in their Rolls.
They fly past all the time in their Leased Jets ! Mmmm, Can I change? Can I select a sedentary daily
life and weekend Jet setter way? Would I feel like mud at the riverbank or the fast waters flow.

Not much ... maybe ... maybe not. Been on my mind
The combined age of my two vehicles is 35yrs
Both the Jeep and Volkswagen are still going strong though
Both have V6's with plenty of umph
4X4 Jeep can tow 5K lbs and the Volkswagen will 0-60 in right around 6 seconds
Had them so long I named them ... Ruby and Candy
Hard decision to get rid of a family member ;)

I see all these 1000's of New and recent full sized pickups sitting on Dealer and auction lots and think this is foolish.
Then the Used Lots are packed. Just Waite a bit. These prices are Crazy high !
Then there the 100,000's of the deceased owner vehicles changing hands too.

10 + years and in this local, they rapidly become rust buckets!

Seriously tho the Metro stop is just a block from my home. easy to hop a bus if desperate.
Actually a 3 wheeler - 1 mile to shopping is easy. Just insurance on our 3 vehicles is over $3000 a year.
Then there is at least $3000 petro bill. Couple of new tires = $500 - Oil changes $200 = Near $7000
With out maintenance. Buy a new F150 = at least $7000.

Electric pedal 3 wheeler + CCL= $2000 ... :coffee: ... ... Charger bill $200 = the next 7 years. ... = 18 pack of brews a week !
I will not drive an F150 but anew one for $7000 may be worth it to sell it.

If an electric pedal 3 wheeler works for you - great! We have to get from Oklahoma City OK to Phoenix AZ next Saturday with a full load. When would you need to get on the road?

I really debated a new bronco sport…about a minute or so. But I can depreciate a car faster than lightning. We drive…lots. And personally I change the oil…and fix what is broken. Not much else. I like vehicles with good track records…models that have been around long enough to work out the kinks. But new??? Not necessary as I will drive the bejeans out of it.

We have two vehicles in this household, a small SUV and a compact pickup. Both were bought secondhand/reconditioned, they're somewhat old but dependable. The SUV gets more use, as it's much better on fuel milage.

Let's say I want go to our nearest city (the one with good grocery shopping, cafés, independent restaurants, pharmacies, etc). I can drive there in 50 minutes, costing gas, oil, and tire tread—and then have to deal with parking. Often I do that. But often, as well, I'll use the subsidized bus system at $2.25 each way... takes 80 minutes, I can just watch the scenery as I go, maybe talk with someone I know who's on the bus. If I don't have a lot to bring back home, I prefer that transportation.

I had planned to keep my 17 year old car longer since it hasn’t required repairs. However, I changed my mind when I kept reading that car prices were probably going up 3-5k per car and bought one the beginning of January. Yesterday I read it’s more likely to be an increase of 6k per car.
