Female Fashion Trends over the years.

Very interesting the way female fashion over the years has emphasized the upper torso of women by exposing their bare shoulders and relatively low cut dresses and strapless or nearly strapless lightweight tops. The emphasis seems to be a huge tease and intentionally exposes and highlights certain parts of the female anatomy. Why haven't fashion trends for women been more in line with covering the entire upper body such as is the case for men? Instead, fashions have been suggestive and enticing and not really fair to women. On the other hand, women buy the fashions and therefore, buy in to the exposure. Is that really the case? Just seems contradictory to the reality of how women should be treated.
 

I'd like to hear men's opinions on bare this and bare that on women. Do they only see a women so exposed as how pretty or is their first thought sexual? Aren't those "exposures" really unfair temptations to men who are not to have sexual thoughts?
 

It isn't just "exposures" but also faux exaggerations. "Underwire" immediately comes to mind right after the spackle on the face to cover molehills and fissures... and that's just the beginning of course.

Imagine the padded codpieces of Renaissance times.

Well yeah. Women are just as important human beings as any man. Just for different important reasons. The natural born human nature of how men and women dress or don't can still effect opinions of eachother.

One style I've never liked is the shoulder with a piece missing. There are 3 other ways to go that are acceptable: sleeveless, short sleeve, or long sleeves, but not sleeves with holes cut out. It makes the garment look damaged.

Really, Elsie, I'd never heard that before. I didn't know when I saw them at church wearing those that they were preparing to go for a med shot. And a sleeveless top wouldn't serve the same purpose? Gee, I learn strange new things every day.
 
I loved the fashions of my childhood in the 30s. My mother, et al dressed in the classiest outfits and dressed us girls likewise. My mom, grandmother and great grandmom were going shopping one afternoon, and were dressed in ankle length flowery afternoon dresses with lovely matching hats. Their shoes were strappy slim heels. This was about 1936. I was in a periwinkle colored dress with a white sash around the waist. White Maryjanes, and white socks with lacy gloves like the ladies wore. We were the cat's meow. Really, we looked very nice, but that's what we wore in those days just to go shopping. I never felt comfortable in above the knee dresses and skirts.
