Female Fashion Trends over the years.

No matter how ridiculous the fashion trend is, some people will follow it unfailingly. I personally think it’s better to march to the beat of your own drum and wear what suits you and your type of figure – be yourself, not a carbon copy of some deluded designer. But most of all, wear what makes you feel good about yourself.

I loved the fashions of my childhood in the 30s. My mother, et al dressed in the classiest outfits and dressed us girls likewise. My mom, grandmother and great grandmom were going shopping one afternoon, and were dressed in ankle length flowery afternoon dresses with lovely matching hats. Their shoes were strappy slim heels. This was about 1936. I was in a periwinkle colored dress with a white sash around the waist. White Maryjanes, and white socks with lacy gloves like the ladies wore. We were the cat's meow. Really, we looked very nice, but that's what we wore in those days just to go shopping. I never felt comfortable in above the knee dresses and skirts.
Sounds beautiful! It is for this reason that I enjoy watching movies circa 1940-1960. People really dressed with class and style then.

True! There was this time when I was attending secretarial school, back in the 80s, and the students were advised to dress as if they were already working, to get used to dressing professionally. So, I had put together a look of my own. To my surprise, within weeks several of the other women who attended there were imitating me.

Covid wear
Nope. I first remember seeing cut out shoulders in 2016. And maybe some versions of those since the 1800's, according to this:

Remember in earlier days, when women were pregnant, we always wore a smock top with either a skirt or long pants. Nowadays I cringe when
I see pregnant girls or women who insist on wearing skintight dresses or worse still stretch tops and hipster pants exposing a huge stomach. It's as if they are saying "Look at me." Ladies, birth is a beautiful thing and treat your baby with the respect it deserves. There are some beautiful maternity dresses out there.
I still love to dress well whenever I go out shopping and friends ask me if I'm going out to a function. I was going out with my younger sister and was surprised to see her in some crushed jeans and a t-shirt. I think I take after my grandmother who always wore lovely dresses and bright colours.

I agree...I don't ike the fashion for women to wear bodycon dresses,or worse still tiny tops, showing a huge bare belly naked..when they're pregnant... it's not a good look IMO...

In our day we had such pretty maternity clothes which were fashionable as well

I saw a lot of bare pregnant bellies when I was living in South Australia. Young teenage girls appeared to be very proud of their condition.

Is that a heart?
Gosh, I just remembered something. As I drifted off to sleep last night the podcaster was saying to look for ‘hearts’ as you go through the day. She said they could be in anything - maybe a leaf. I don’t she was referring to that guy. 😉

As Muslims, we are taught to dress modestly...even men. The rationale for this is so that a man will be interested in the quality and mind of a woman, not lusting after her body parts. I"ll admit to showing some cleavage when I was a Christian, but not as ridiculously so as many others I've seen. My son was deejaying a party and he told me the young lady who struck him as looking the nicest was one who was wearing a white blouse and jeans, that weren't too tight. I don't know why women think that letting it all hang out is necessary nor that some men wouldn't see that as an invitation to make advances.

I've seen women with clothes so tight that you can see their "va-jay jay" and so low cut that their boobs were damn near falling out. I saw a young lady at the gym who had a shape women would kill for. She had on gym pants so tight that matched her skin color and had a darker line up the middle so that at a distance it looked like she was naked and showing the crack of her a*s! Why?! The picture below is not of her but the look is similar.

What makes it so bad is there are women who are grossly overweight who wear the same kind of gym clothes. I describe that look as being "Mac-Nasty". I think the trend with celebrities has further influenced this mode of dress. That is not classy. I told my granddaughter..."Be classy, not trashy". I have always worn classic clothes and even though I'm a bit overweight, I always get compliments on how I look. BTW, all the men at the gym wear loose fitting comfortable looking gym pants.

My son told me a funny story the other night. He said a female friend of his in North Carolina was at a Walmart and saw a woman who had so much stuff showing that she may as well have been naked. As she got up to the check out, she noticed everyone was staring at her. So she asked the cashier, "why is everyone staring at me?" The cashier told her "Because you look a mess!" I said to my son..you mean she didn't say a "hot mess"? :ROFLMAO:

Amen to that!

Overly dressed by Miami gym standards and I do not exaggerate .

I don't know if it's weird or not, but for as long as I can remember, any time a fashion trend appears, my first thought is always "How can that possibly be comfortable?"

There are some that baffle me. Turtleneck sweaters with no sleeves? Are you cold or not?

Mini skirts? You are literally one inch away from letting everyone see your underwear.

Thongs? I'm sorry, you're walking around with a voluntary wedgie. There's no way that can be comfortable.

High heels, to me, are a study in torture. I don't know why women put themselves through that. It's got to hurt walking around like that.

Some great points Dave! Not trying to start a fight, but male fashions - as a rule - have not been as strange and revealing as women's fashion. Why are they so anxious to show so much skin?
