Some Kiwis make the distinction between themselves Australians because they were colonists, and Aussies were POMs ( Prisoners of Her Majesty).

I was always told that pirates were depicted with parrots because they would adopt them as pets because of their travels to exotic places. I think the locals would have them as pets having taken them either very young or as eggs because they do attach themselves to their owners, but I was told a lot of things as a kid that weren't true, just passing it on.

Thank you @Flarbalard , I learned things here. Never knew what a POM meant. Why the term"Kiwi"; anything to do with the fruit? 🦜🥝🦜
