Just Country Music, Ya'll

Wow Pam first one ever to knock me sideways of my seat and set the tears rolling - applies to a few in my life as I am sure it does in others - but wow that was powerful and a knockout - and I can attest it sure does happen!
I have ended up in tears every time I've heard He Stopped Loving Her Today over the years. Every single time.

When did ya'll start liking country music? For me it was in my best friend's little orange car... and the song I posted here was on the 8-track she was playing. Conway Twitty singing Fifteen Years Ago. 🎶

Two of my grandchildren (aged 15 and 19) were telling me that country music is becoming quite popular amongst younger people here in the UK. I have listened to a couple of their suggestions but can't say that they grab me at all. I think it's my duty now to educate my grandkids in 'proper' country music. ;)
I hope you find the style that appeals to you, Pam. You might like sampling early country. Jimmie Rodgers (1897-1933) is thought to be the father of country music, although he's as much a blues singer as country. He was born just up the road from me in Meridian, Miss. Hank Williams, Sr. (1923-1953) is my favorite country singer. He, along with steel player Don Helms, and fiddle player Jerry Rivers produced a unique style and sound which stays with me today. He became a huge star in his short life, and really contributed to the wide popularity of country music.

You can sample both of these great performers on YouTube. To my taste the old country music is the best. The vast majority of contemporary country music all sounds the same. I think it's all written by computer..:(

I recall hearing Hank Williams on the radio in Ohio as a kid. But I didn't know anything about music then. I went on to have a professional career in symphonic, then jazz/rock music. But in 1976 we went down to Wheeling W. Va. to the Wheeling Jamboree where I heard Crystal Gail, Little Jimmy Dickens and other name country artists. I was hooked. I dove into the repertoire and listened to all the greats of, and before, that time. I still love the old stuff, but can't stomach the new stuff. It's mostly contemporary pop music.

I cannot find the thread on country music that I started. I would hope it is still available for everyone. But never fear as I see Holldolly has one she created a good while ago that I did not know about. So there is no need for two! I would like to kow where mine ws moved to, tho. And as everyone here is so nice I would't want to think it is gone permanetly.

Isn’t this post in the thread that you created? 🤔

This brought back a memory. When I was a teen, I was given a 5-band radio and loved seeing where I could pull radio stations from. My favorite was from Wheeling and they had some great programming. And I agree 💯 % about the "new stuff." When I want to listen to country, it's always the older things... it's gotten horrid in the last 15 years or so. You're right... it's not like country at all.

Try to get The Wolf 99.7 on your radio. Hours of uninterrupted older country.
