Doctor did not do vitals

On a recent visit to my PCP, her staff didn't take my vital signs (pulse, blood pressure). I think for a person having spells of vertigo and feeling pressure in their head, a blood pressure reading would be important. Is that malpractice?

No, my considered opinion is that it's not malpractice. I'm not an attorney, though. If I were the patient I would definitely have asked that vital signs be checked.

I think you would have to prove you suffered harm.. Did you? why didn't you ask them to take your vital signs? I speak up all the time at the docs office and I don't leave until I feel satisfied that I had gotten all the care and attention I deserved... including having all my questions answered to my satisfaction. People need to take responsibility for their care.

You didn't realize they hadn't taken your blood pressure? I don't understand. Not sure how exactly they gave you the bum's rush, but you should have spoken up ..."I'd like to have my blood pressure checked".

I think if you called and really wanted the information, they'd let you come in and do it quickly for you, although it would mean an added trip. I go to a HMO, and never got the bum's rush like that, the first thing they do is take my weight and vitals. I'd think it was odd if they didn't, maybe they just spaced it out.

Very good point! I bet they will let you come right in and just do it. Go for it!

I have a home one, too, though it is a cuff one. I had to get it before my hip surgeries because they wanted me to keep track of my blood pressure at home. I have that white coat syndrome thing and my blood pressure started to be way up in doctors' offices. Turns out it was just nerves and anxiety.

debodun, are you going to come back and answer questions or at least acknowledge the suggestions people have contributed to try to help you? I notice that on many of the problem threads you post, you just state your problem/complaint then you disappear.
