Loved Gene in everything I saw him in. However "French Connection." Groundbreaking movie, absolutely sensational; "invented" the perfect car chase. A milestone for Hollywood. Thank you, Mr. Hackman for your overwhelming body of work.

He was pretty bad a$$ in Mississippi Burning.
I think that was the best movie role of his career. Although Popeye Doyle was a pretty good role, too!

We watched The French Connection this evening. That was an excellent movie! I saw it way back in the '70s and again in the '80s, but it was like watching it again for the first time. I have much better concentration now, plus with subtitles, I can understand all the dialogue.

Well of course it was Bonnie and Clyde that really put him on the map in 1967. he was superb in that picture, and it seemed effortless for him.

I loved him in The French Connection (19761). Hackman really inhabited that wild 'n crazy Popeye Doyle.

But my favorite film which also had a great portrayal by him was The Conversation (1974), directed by Francis Ford Coppola. IMO that was a perfect movie, including it's haunting and moody solo piano score.

But TBH, I can't think of a poor or even mediocre Gene Hackman performance. His last film, Welcome to Mooseport (2004) was a stinker, but Hackman's work was first rate.

Not sure what happened, but he will be missed, I hear his wife was quite the pianist

2001 The Mexican

1997 Absolute Power

1998 Enemy of the State

1995 Get Shorty

Were a few of my likes... He will be missed

RIP Gene, your wife, and Dog...

I’m going with the 1996 film ‘The Chamber’ where Hackman is a death row prisoner. A powerful unforgettable performance.
