Does Anyone Knit or Spin?

There was a lady up the road from where we used to live who had her own sheep which she’d sheer and spin the wool into spools to make her own hand knit items.

Do you have any items you’ve made that you’d like to show us? How long have you been doing this? What encouraged you to do it?

I learned to knit when I was 11. When I settled down as an adult knitting was just part of my life as was crocheting. I learned to spin in my thirities and love it! All of the wool in the photo above is wool I hand spun. I have no way to get photos on here.

I had a yarn shop in Fredericksburg, va. Still have spinning friends in Virginia and Maryland.

I you have reouble knitting with the hands use bamboo needles. It helps a lot.

How did you get the photos you used the first time?

they are older pics. I had to get a new computer and discovered my phone camera and the new compter were not user friendly to each other. I haven't used my camera in 2 years due to this.
Doesn’t your phone have a camera? All the pictures I use I take with my phone camera . Then I just upload them to the site. I take so many pictures I’d be lost without my camera.

Yes, I knit, a lot! Been told it’s not so much a hobby as an affliction šŸ˜‚
I can crochet too, learned from my gran who used to make the most beautiful things, all in fine crochet cotton or silk, not wool. Her items were so beautiful but she couldn’t read a pattern to save her life, all her designs came out of her own head.

I enjoy both knitting and crocheting. I usually just make small items, like knitted socks and slippers for my family. I also like to use the plastic grocery bags made into balls of plastic yarn and crochet them into rugs for by the bed or in the bathroom.
This is a pair of socks that i made from leftover skeins of yarn. My husband loves these and wears his hand knitted socks in the winter time.

Is this your pattern?I love making socks and heavy wool slippers. These are really nice and the colors are great together. Now I am making a multicolored beret and it is comig along great. Sometimes I'll felt them and then they are really excellent. Where do you buy your yarn?

The pattern is an old one from a Red Heart Yarn knitting book that i have had for many years. the socks are easy because they are made with 4-ply yarn and size 3-4 needles. I use up yarn scraps when I am making slippers and socks, and also for the throw rugs.
I just usually get that Super Saver large skeins of Red Heart yarn, from either Walmart or Amazon.

I LOVE Marcos bedtime robe. It’s so cute and suites him perfectly. Does he have a daytime coat for going on walks?

That little dog has all sorts of clothes, @PeppermintPatty ! He loves wearing clothes, so he has sets of onesies that cover his body more like a pajama, little shirts to keep him warm in the winter (even a Hoodie one), and cute Hawaiian shirts for summertime elegance.

Have you been to The Sheep and Wool Festival. We went a couple times and it was a nice day.

I have been crocheting since teenage years, afghans, scarves and the occasional shawl.

There is a beginner's knitting craft set I am wanting, on Amazon. Basic scarf with pockets.
I'm a better crochet'er than I am a knitter... I croch'ed every blanket, scaf and hat.. etc.. when my DD was young.... I can knit..I was taught from age 7 in school, but I had a traumatic event happen by that teacher,. and I just could never enjoy knitting after that .

I can knit very plain things , but nothing fancy at all

OTOH I tought myself to crochet when my daughter was just a toddler...

Onesies! Lol. We have two dogs. One loves her sweaters and doggy coats..The other one hates them. When we put a coat of sweater on him he’ll suddenly start staggering sideways. Once we start walking he mysteriously starts walking just fine. It happens everyday.
