Do you use senior helpers/aids?

Hi @StarSong. May I ask where you got your loofa mats from? This is a good idea. I currently take showers but I do have a bathtub that isn’t installed yet. When it does gets instslled , I’d like to make it as safe as possible.
I was incorrect when describing this as reversible. One side is rubberized so it's non-slip.

This thread took me a few days to fully get through it all but really helpful.

I don’t have a bathtub installed yet. I have a stand up shower but it has a place to sit. The other day I almost slipped so this type of mat would be very helpful. Nice find. Thanks for sharing. @Aunt Bea.

I don’t have an adult bib, I actually have an eating tshirt which is stained, but I don’t really care. Somehow I’ve gotten to become I very sloppy eater. Things like ribs, sloppy joes, or chilli dogs seem to make a big mess. For a while I was using shout out on all my clothes. Now when I’m going to eat something really messy, I just change shirts.

Grabbing things off the top shelves at home has become a bit of a challenge so I also use various things to help. I’m not short but I still have a difficult time getting things like the colander ( strainer ) or sifter, I use a long wooden fork. I pull it out and catch it with my left hand.

Thank you all for sharing all you helpful hints.
This is a great thread full of helpful ideas.
My shower has permanent non slip doo dads stuck on the floor. Mine are shaped like shells and are the same color as the background. They help me feel secure with no slippage. No need to hang anything out to dry.

It's not specifically a senior aid but I have started wearing an adjustable back brace around the house every other day or so. My lower back has been aching a little and sore from time to time. I've moved my own self for years, put stuff in and out of storage by myself, using safe lifting practices. I never kept heavy furniture (always gave away the few pieces that I had) or anything that I couldn't move myself.

But, I cared for my elderly mom for 5 1/2 months before she died a couple of years ago. When I started the caring, I did not think about safe lifting practices, because she quickly became bedridden. I only thought about safe lifting with moving. I did not think that pulling on her to roll her back and forth would cause me problems. Before she became bedridden, I also had to help her in and out of her wheelchair, etc. By the time I thought about wearing a back brace while doing the caring, it was already nearer to her passing. The back brace that I use now feels good and I think it will help strengthen my back and ease the soreness. I don't have to take any pain-relievers for it.

I agree, this is a very good thread. I'm going to Watch it.

When shopping, I always have a problem finding what department the doo dads are in.

I usually see them in the Bathroom area, sometimes hanging on narrow vertical clip racks in odd places. But you are right, sometimes they can still be hard to find, depending on the store. Seems like they can be more readily found sometimes in the cheap dollar stores.

Well this is a great ideal. Nothing to worry about trying to keep clean or blocking the water from draining. Come to think of it , my parents used something similar. Sea shells. How perfect. I shall look for something like this. A great idea, thanks.

It was much easier in the old days. All you had to do was get on the elevator and as it approached each floor the matron would call out, "Third floor! Bathroom fixtures! Kitchen utensils! Doo dads!"

I agree. There’s a store called “Bed, Bath & Beyond” and they have just about everything bathroom related. They are a bit on the pricey side but their products are top quality.

I'm old but not old enough to remember those Are You Being Served (Britcom) days or the days when US dept stores had those elevator operators. But it was certainly easier and faster to find things decades ago. I don't go to the stores often anymore and I get in and out ASAP. Too many headache-inducing choices, maze aisles and store design changes.

I've been thinking of getting a hearing aid, because I can't freaking hear, but I'm unsure I'll find one small enough to allow for my daith piercings, which I am loathe to give up.

Temu and Aliexpress have everything, at rock bottom prices too! 😄 No, I guess someone will drag me for this comment. 🤣 But I do order craft supplies and some household from them.

Oh, how I hate those maze aisles! They make me claustrophobic. If there is a way to take a short cut, I do it. I actually enter by way of the cashier which means a lot of "excuse me!" "excuse me!" against traffic, passed the people queued up to pay for their purchases. If someone wants to give me a nasty look then let them but anyone who dares say something to me is asking for trouble.

Inept it sounds like you are creating a lot of your problems yourself.
