Who am I? Why am I here?

Are there any other Old Dummies around here besides me? :confused:

I haven't posted here in 3 years, I recognize a few names but not many. I found out that the old site was shut down, and it took some time to run across this place -- which I instantly recognized from the layout. I Googled "Senior forums", I clicked them one by one and this place popped up. I wasn't sure if this was the old one or not. But the layout was the same and it still had "Old Dummy" stored. :D

I bet politics brought the one old crashing down and that it why it's stated as not being allowed here. Probably a good thing.

I recognize "Ruthanne" from before, and I might have mentioned this to her before: That is my sis's best friend's name from high school (class of '65), and they are still best friends. I also saw Ken's name somewhere.

Who I'm really looking for, and have not seen any sign of yet, is "John" (I think), not sure if that was the whole handle or not. I believe he lived in Virginia and was made a mod. We used to PM a lot about life and cars, but those PMs are gone.

Is he still here? I wanted to yak about cars again. :(

Welcome of us have been here over 10 years so you should recognise us.I remember your name ... Welcome back

There was never a John here who was a mod... that must have been another forum..which would explain why there are no PM's..otherwise all your PM's would still be here

One other "seniors" forum recently ceased to operate. Many of us were on that and this one. I've been here since 2016.

Hi, I remember you! A small-town diner I go to has a young waitress named "Holly." I call her Holly Dolly sometimes -- I must have gotten that from you subconsciously. :D

EDIT: "John" was probably his real name, don't remember what his screen name might have been. He was still in his 60s (as of 3 years ago) and lived alone in Virginia out in the country as I recall. He had a Mazda and he was instrumental in me buying a new '23 Mazda, which I just swapped for a new truck yesterday. I wanted to yak about all that with him.

And around the last time I posted here (spring of 2022) Ken had made him a mod as I recall. I know I'm old, but (I don't think) my memory is that bad! (yet :()

Ah, okay. That forum has been offline for several days now so I thought it went down in flames. I recognized yours and other names here so I assumed Ken just buried the old forum and started this one. Thanks!

It could get back up and running, no-one knows.. I use to post there but I think ''john'' must have been made a Mod after I left.. there's a few people who post here who also post over there until it closed.. like @Happyflowerlady who would be able to tell you what John's handle is...

SOC has been offline for almost a month now, and no one has heard from Ken, the owner of the forum. A few of us have posted on the facebook page for SoC, but at this point, I think that the forum servers have just stopped working for good, or the server people would have had them up and running again before now.
It didn’t have anything to do with political threads, just really old software and servers, and the server company not doing their job properly.
The SOC Moderator named John was a member here a long time ago, and I forgot his name on this forum; but I do not think that he is on here anymore, @Old Dummy .
John was called “in the sticks” when he was here, and you could try sending him a private message. It looks like he checked in back in January, so he would probably like getting a private message from you.

Q: Why do I have some old "conversations" here when I was never a member? And none of the ones I had with "John" from Virginia are here. :confused:

So: This forum had my name and profile stored, and some conversations, but none of them with John. Color me confused. :(

But I did find the member "In the Sticks", and am sending him a note. He has not been here since January, but hopefully he will get notified.
