Mass Exodus: Why Canadians Are Leaving in Record Numbers

Sounds like the economic conditions, in particular the housing crisis, are leading even more people to flee.

I assume that a lot of NPRs (non-permanent residents) are students, professors, and their families as well as other guest-workers. Others are probably intending staged immigration to the US via Canada, which occurs in large numbers.

So I assume most of those leaving have decided to rush their schedule and move into the US. I'm not sure where the rest are going though. Caribbean? Dubai?

But this doesn't bode well. Demographic collapse was already beginning to accelerate before housing went out of control in recent years.

There is a lot of talk about Canada joining up with the United States in some way. Alberta has apparently sent a delegation to Washington DC to ask about becoming a US state, but i do not see that as likely to happen.
I do think it is possible that our relationship with Canada is going to change in the future. They have been adding tariffs to almost everything we buy from them, and now that we are adding tariffs back, it is likely that something better will be resolved for trade between the two countries.
The US also provides military protection for Canada, which they need; and I think that this will come into the negotiation as well. I doubt that all of Canada will become part of the US, but it could happen and be a benefit to both countries.

IDK what’s going on anywhere anymore, but something strange is definitely happening in our world. My New Jersey neighborhood has long been home to many rotating foreign dignitaries assigned to the United Nations, just across the river in NYC. Those homes are empty. Every one of the dignitaries have recently been recalled. They were very nice people and I shall miss them. I can’t imagine what is going on.

@Happyflowerlady. First off, there was a poll taken to see how many Canadian citizens wanted to join with the U.S. and only 10% wanted to. That leaves 90% who don’t want to.

Before the new president was elected we had a great trading relationship with the U.S.
Once we had tariffs put on us we decided to match up the tariffs by applying the same.

As far as getting U.S. protection, we aren’t at war with anyone so don’t need it.
