picture this meme. yellow lab, laid-back at the bar, wearing a camo ball cap and plaid flannel shirt, drinking a cold Budweiser. he says... "no daughter of mine if gonna go out with a chocolate lab!"

I say it's extremely racist and an admin (on a different board) is telling me i'm being "too sensitive"?!
 

If a black man would say "I don't like that my daughter goes out with a white man" I'd have no problems with it. It's his opinion. It would be racist, if he would say "white trash" or something like this. The same with a yellow or white man who says this. Just my 2 cents.

Regarding PC I am with Dr. Specht, the lead of a former German TV series.

It's in German, but you can choose subtitles and the automatic translation in English.

It plays on the Southern redneck NASCAR fan...my daughter ain't gonna date no black man. The meme is demeaning to both whites and blacks in my opinion.
 
It sounds to me like the cartoon is ridiculing racists. The yellow lab, at the bar in ball cap, represents a type of white racist who is poorly educated and is speaking a very old out-dated phrase. The fact that they're dogs, all the same species, points out how ridiculous racism is.

guess you'd need to run it by the ' race committee' in you neck of the woods if you have one or the editor of your local news?

Exactly. The essence of the joke is to illustrate how narrow-minded and how bigoted the person speaking was. It's like watching an episode of Archie Bunker. One couldn't take anything he said seriously, and it was humorous (To many) because of his screwed up mind. In the series, Archie was a parody of racism, not an endorsement of it.

Even though he referred to his wife as the dingbat, he was the one who ended up as the butt of the joke, and the series was intended to do just that. In real life, Caroll O'Connor wasn't the bigoted loudmouth he played on TV. He was actually pretty liberal.

So, what I got from the "joke" is that it illustrated the misguided viewpoints of narrow-minded people. It's meant to poke fun at bigotry not condone it. Racism is a sensitive subject, and those who are racist may not see how ludicrous their views are, and maybe when they become the joke, it could hit home. One can hope anyway.

The dog at the bar was painted as a stereotype redneck, of course the joke was raciest on both counts. stereotypical raciest redneck metaphorically speaking about people of color. Why a chocolate lab? Why not a red golden retriever or a plain old black dog? No it had to be chocolate lab???
