14 Karat Free Mason Ring

My Uncle’s friend passed away and left his stuff to him.

My Uncle gave this box to me. It has a half dollar Kennedy coin…a Seiko watch…and this gold Free Mason ring which I am now wearing. Here's a picture of the ring. My daughter is hand-modeling it. I think it looks pretty sharp! I googled these types of rings...might be worth a couple grand. But I won't sell it, as I like old stuff.

Oooowww! Nice nails.
The rings nice too.

I think that The Free Mason society was so secret back in the day, that even it’s own members didn’t know what they were all meeting about. lol!

But I like the fact that the ring symbolizes ‘charity’ and ‘integrity’ from what I googled.

Lol agree and do not recall if it was American Pickers , Pawn Stars or a show where they would bid like on lockers , trailers without knowing what was in them and hope they scored but either way a Mason ring which initially valued at 400 dollars was 20k at auction .

My grandfather was a Freemason and a Shriner (which is a sub-group of Masonry), 32nd degree, of which he was very proud. They're also referred to as Masons. Their lodges are also called Masonic Halls.

Whereas it's considered "bad form" by many Masons (my grandfather believed this) to wear any Masonic regalia if you're not a Mason, it's not "disallowed" if done with respect (like to honor a Mason as you are doing). The ranks have dwindled tremendously (there are only about 48,000 in the US left, down from two million only a few years ago (Grim Reaper is thinning the ranks), so probably no one will notice.

When he died, my cousin who got all Grandpa's Masonic stuff, pawned it all.

Should I get this ring appraised? And if so, where would I go to get that done?
I remember the first appraisal who of course offered to buy it from them was an incorrect appraisal and an expert told them to go to auction as so many rings were fake but theirs was real plus had value in other ways , they got 20k .

You see your ring is real but as you know with conspiracies some time ago think like 10 years or go give take Masons were called illuminati or whatever it was and fake rings left and right came out .

I myself would not let anything out of my sight if had it appraised .

And yes as a retired Plumber I got into rings , lol I have retrieved many returned them all learned a little .

Edit , let me add that as you know the value is of course also based on how rare the ring is is real which yours is because diff types of rings .

I thought in order to be a Shriner you had to be a Mason in good standing ?

I am no expert but have seen both their rings and as you know so many styles .

Having been a big part of that secret society form childhood - I would pass on wearing that ring - which is to be worn only by a fellow mason in good standing. Just because a person holds title to anything even tho it suppose to good, does not mean it is good.
Would I be wrong if said lots of fake Mason rings out now ?

My dad was a Mason and always wore his ring. My brother was tagged to burn his apron,

and I received his Bible. His ring was buried with him, and the Bible is locked in my son's safe.

The women belonged to the Eastern Star and had white Bibles. I don't know what ever happened to her stuff. My siblings, who were many years younger than I, did not know of nor care for traditions. It gets worse with each succeeding generation.

They had such formal parties in the Masonic Hall, and we children were dressed accordingly. A lot of dancing, games, etc. Marvelous gifts for us all, several times a year.

Old traditions really should not be treated in a Cavalier manner. I respect them all.

How do you become a member? I'm still wearing the ring. I googled it and it said the ring symbolizes charity and integrity...which is all me! ;)
"To be one, ask one."

My father was also a 32nd degree Past Master Mason and a Shriner. Your ring is nice but it is not proper for you to wear that symbol without being a Mason. The ring is probably only worth what the gold weight is; the fact that it is a Masonic ring does not add any value to speak of.

As for "fake" Masonic rings; I have never heard of that and can't imagine why... but people are strange.

Actually, I don't even think the ring is a Mason ring...it's got an off-center logo...might be an old school ring. I still like it and I'm currently wearing it...despite some suggestions I should not.

So it is not a Mason ring after all , could it be one of the rings forged by Sauran in Mordor , a highly sought after ring I would pay handsomely for .
