One man said there were over $30,000 of fraudulent charges made on his credit card after charging a restaurant meal. A woman had her computer hacked forcing her to have to get a whole new system.

Wow, he carries that kind of limit on his CC? I typically keep my CC limit at $5K to help stop potential fraudulent abuse from going too far. I have upped my credit limit to purchase big ticket items but always drop it back down the next billing cycle. As Hollydolly said, you always have to be on your best game to prevent fraud, you have to protect yourself.

Few cards offer 30k+ limits. Contact the fraud department, dispute charges. Why does someone need to "get a whole new system" after a computer got hacked?

Bad things happen.

The important thing is to learn how to deal with them when they do.

My credit card issuer sends me an email alert for every transaction so it would be difficult for a criminal to run up such a high balance before alerting the issuer.

I also restrict foreign transactions when the card is not present to help minimize internet fraud.

This consumer is not doing himself any favors by not letting established processes take their course. And I am not buying what he is selling.

I have an app on my phone whereby I can see my credit card transactions and balance. My credit card is not linked to my bank account (that sounds more like a debit card?)
Any discrepancy would be easily noticed by me and I would contact the card provider promptly and get it rectified.

That did happen couple of times, for small amount, and it was easily rectified. Both times after QR code ordering so I am wary of that now.

Re computer hacking - if you have good virus protection and do not open emails etc with dodgy links- then chances of viruses getting in is small.

And this is why I never use a debit card! If someone gets your credit card info it can be a hassle but if they got you debit card number it could quickly become a nightmare.

Yeah... makes no sense that he was charged using a number that was NOT his.
And yes, he needs to speak with the fraud department (NOT do things himself) so that all charges can be reversed, and so he gets a new card.
