A Car Chased/ Cut Me Off

Yes, but if the same thing happened again --same place, same time, same vehicle description -- maybe the police or neighborhood watch would know to keep watch or drive by frequently, maybe stop this character.

I think it should be reported.
Good point. It would be interesting to know if they've received other reports of incidents like that.

A similar thing happened to my dad once. IT was late afternoon when he was on his way to pick up my mother (his wife) where
she worked. (Waikiki). She was standing on the sidewalk when ny dad drove by and kept going. Later he explained what was happening that a car had been following his car for quite a while and when my dad drove passed my mom the other car eventually stopped following him and it never happened again. It seems that some people get a thrill making other people scared and nervous.

That sounds like a good idea, even if you can't provide all the information needed to do something about it this time, if it happens again to someone else the police will know that it isn't a one-time occurrence.

I agree with that, @Beezer .

And in addition, I believe it's nearly always okay to notify the police, if you want to.

And so that they can be aware of it, and the location and time;
And for you to feel a bit better by doing so, if you want to. For any reason, and for you to not wonder if you should have.

I'm sorry that happened to you.
I think it would be unnerving.
Plus it should feel safe to go out at night.
But probably it isn't.

It happened to me as a young woman. I was on my way home after a graveyard shift, a thirty-mile drive. I was terrified. I knew I would crash, so I pulled in to a small town, and parked, facing some store windows (everything was closed), and turned my headlights on bright, and laid on the horn. They finally pulled away and left.

I was armed but never even thought of that.

Living near Canada, I watch Canadian news every day. There's plenty of vicious gun crime going on there.
I didn’t say there’s no crime, I said guns were illegal here. Anyone living near the United States border ‘should’ expect more violence.

I used to see a car following me many times but it probably was someone going the same direction that lived in the same area. It did make me nervous.

I think reporting the incident in the first post would help for other drivers and stop the one who is driving in such a careless manner.

Everything terrible that happens doesn't have to be reported to the police. People just handle their own business. Let police worry about more serious things.
If you'll notice in my first reply (#17) I said I thought it was too late to report it. But after reading others' responses about the rationale for reporting it, I can see their points and the possible benefits of doing so. If this person (or persons) are perpetrating what @911 wrote about (reply #5) something I've heard of before, and they are possibly seeking to target others, then I can see why police should be made aware.

It’s always a good idea to report things such as what happened to Beezer. Chances are this may not have been this drivers first attempt at getting another driver to pull over in an effort to commit a robbery. Police may have had other complaints of this driver making attempts to pull drivers over for the purpose of committing a crime, like robbing them, or worse. (Everyone’s heard of the fake police light that started back in the 1960’s. Well, that’s still happening today.)

If that was the case, it’s possible that another victim may have reported the license plate number. If the police can see a trend, whoever is in charge of the P.D. would probably put out a BOLO or an APB on the car.

When a situation such as this happens, it’s best to keep driving and pull into a well lighted gas station or other facility that may be open. People that are intending to commit a crime hate lights because it exposes them. I always urged women especially to adhere to this rule.
