A flower a day ...

Here are a couple of dogwood flowers I photographed at FILOLI, the Woodside estate garden

I'm pretty sure this next one is also a dogwood but fancier than most.

Just a couple weeks ago my garden designing neighbor passed and there was a sale of plants from his garden to help his estate. I picked out a Bilbergia bromeliad as he had lived in Brazil and seeing them reminds me of him. The foliage is especially nice turquoise/chrome color and now the first flowers are opening and I think they're a pretty nice blue with some red parts for shock value.

I met a new plant today and it had a ridiculous amount of bloom for its size.

But incase you can't see it in the original photos here is an enlarged crop of the foliage which is the the real star:

Those leaves feel just like kitten ears. Its popular name is Brazilian Edelweiss which makes sense if you've ever seen or felt Edelweiss.

The stargazer lily, my favorite flower. I carried them at my wedding.

This is just an image: I have a black thumb and have basically killed anything I have ever tried to grow, despite my best efforts.

Because you posted this I picked up a bag of bulbs this year. They’re on their way up. Looking forward to seeing how they work where I put them. Thanks!

Just found my picture of the Edelweiss sung about in the Sound of Music:

When I once worked in the floral dept of a Kroger store, a young woman said she wanted to buy a potted plant gift for someone. She didn't know what to get but she told me who she was buying for. What immediately came to my mind was a little pot of purplish cyclamen. As I held it up to her, described its easy care, the reasonable price and pointed out the little, spindly blooms, she became mesmerized. She happily took it from my hands and went to the checkout with stars in her eyes. ✨
