Do you think your life is 'free-er' now that you're a senior?

I like wearing white sox. Even if it isn't "fashionable", I wear white sox. I'm almost 80 and I don't care what others think. When I think back to my Disco days, I followed that fashion religiously. That made me wonder if becoming a senior frees you to be you?

TBH, when I was in high school a billion years ago, yeah I conformed to the prescribed uniform of the day -- T-shirts/jackets, preferably emblazoned with some sort of political statement or affiliation popular at the time -- BLACK socks, because white socks were associated with my stepdad, and blue jeans.

Oddly enough, I continue to wear the white socks, blue jeans, and T-shirts/jackets -- but not emblazoned with the political statement or affiliation popular at the time.

WTF happened? LOL

The nature of the job proscribed the "uniform" for men. More so when I was working on the Legislative side of the fence, when not arriving in a hat was enough to raise eyebrows. Your tie and shoes were important 365 days a year.

I was glad to make the change upon retirement. Then I only had to worry about the "uniform" when making site visits when I was consulting for a time.

Today I can wear sweats and slippers in the house and barely anything more formal when working in the yard. Hell, I've mowed the grass in nothing but a t-shirt and boxers. I just don't need to, nobody looks at an old man.

I had energy which was unreal till 70 give or take , today had two light plumbing jobs and had a cup of coffee before each which would have not needed 3 years ago .

I do not even bother cooking real meals when I get home and I can cook but lost interest , might have to drink coffee in future just to cook a good dinner .

My testosterone is simply not a fraction of what it was . Mon I go to get a check up and going to see about a testosterone boost and not for evil reasons lol simply for more energy

Hardest thing for me was accepting the fact that I have no control over anything, never did but thought I was in charge of something. I do like the dress code, wear anything you like, only keep your front & backside covered, nobody's interested anymore. Sleep in if you want, you don't need a watch, unless you feel half-naked without one.

As you can guess, the first 24 years of my working life, I wore a uniform.
Next 15 years, at the plant, we worn grey shirts with your name and company and dark grey pants.

After that, 8 years wearing pretty much the same uniform as an HVAC guy at the hotel and Hospital.

When I retired, didn't know what to wear each day!

Know it's a small thing, but it took a long time to finally realize, I could just BE ME...
