Neighbours dog barks nonstop at times

Thanks, I may just tell them. However, what practical measure can they take? They must go out sometimes. I think small dogs are often the noisy ones, neurotic too!
they could get him a companion, they could take him to work with them, they could ensure he has a radio on in the background when they go out to keep him company... ( my daughter does this )... they could put an indoor camera in the house , so they can watch him and give him commands remotely..( my dd also does this ).... My dd has a tiny dog a chihuhua .. .. all or any of these will stop the dog being stressed, lonely and bored...

Please tell them.. give them a chance to sort it.. if they dont or won't then you can follow everyone else' suggestions

It's when they go out and leave it. Usually not for too long just sometimes a whole evening. It has a sharp irritating penetrating barking that goes through my head! The rest of the time they are a quiet household, nice people. They only got this dog a short while ago.

I don't know whether to say something or not because I don't want to come across as a whinging whining neighbour. I just want to stay very civilised, reasonable and friendly. After all, I don't suppose there IS anything they can do. Some dogs are just like that.
*Haven't had it long; maybe in time it will get used to the new place.
I hesitate to undermine well meaning posters who have encouraged you to speak with the owners, but I have never had good luck confronting neighbors with problems. It could be my approach. I tend to be very direct.

you don't have to be confrontational.. my neighbours weren't when they told us about our dog barking... and then we were made aware... and we chose to do something about it...

I get it, and I wish I could say the same. All I can do at this point is change one word in my previous post: "I have never had good luck confronting approaching neighbors with problems."

But that's only during mating season.
Yes which is 6 months a year and started few days ago but again I drown out the noise with large box fan

Only reason we have so many in my area is some have swimming pools , I do not but 2 houses down someone has and tree frogs gather in adjacent yards but especially after nightly Summer rains .

Yes, and I have a neighbor with a pool. Their land is on a higher elevation than mine, and several times they have drained their 26,000 gallon pool onto my property, flooding my back yard. They knew quite well what they were doing, and didn't care. I had to call City Code Enforcement, since there is a very specific Code violation for draining a pool ("waste water") onto the property of another.

I have been very fortunate in my walk through life as every neighbor is great , quite as can be and my area like my old area is like a ghost town .

The people with the pool do not even use it an older couple but their 2 dogs use it all time and they eat the frogs like candy , nothing the guy can do about it unless he skims that water every am before letting dogs out which he got tired of doing .

Btw plenty here unfortunately seem to have some inconsiderate lousy neighbors .

My neighbor's dog barks sometimes when next door mother/daughter out. I talk to dog from hallway, say nice things to her and she stops. I wouldn't complain but I would say something if I thought dog anxious but seems normal. Besides. I listen to Howard Stern loudly because I'm deaf so I'm a pest too.

lol I also like Stern and rare to see anyone else who listens to him , I have listened to him when I could since 80's I loved him back then in the am as he came on at 6 am to 10 am as I drove to job sites .

Hello fellow Sterniac! The man literally saved my life with the story that Superman should be played as a retarded person. Even Jackie the Jokeman was shocked and you know that was hard to do! That one from 1992

This is a brilliant idea for anyone with a dog. I love technology.

There are products and methods for dogs that suffer from separation anxiety. I would speak with them but not in a confrontational way. Tread lightly by opening up the conversation by showing concern for the dog.

No more Mr. Nice Guy:

1). Does the dog owner know the dog is a disturbance? Yes. If he denies it he is lying – He’s a bad neighbour.

2). Has he knocked on doors to ask if his dog is disrupting the neighbourhood? If not – He’s a bad neighbour.

3). Is the dog barking because its lonely? Probably.

4). Is the dog barking because its hungry? Maybe.

5). Is the dog owner pleased that his dog is barking for reasons of scaring off burglars? Maybe – He’s a bad neighbour.

6). Should you feel guilty for visiting your neighbour over the subject of the dog? Absolutely not.

7). Will the neighbour treat you with respect and sympathy? If not - He’s a bad neighbour.

8). Should you then afterwards feel guilty about taking the issue up with the authorities? No. Why should you? You’ve got a bad neighbour.

It is not your responsibility to take care of your neighbour’s dog. If he can’t do it and he is unwilling to come to an agreement with you then he shouldn’t own a dog and it should be taken away from him. You can tell him I said so.

I dread having to cause bad feelings and contention. People can react very badly to law getting involved and it brings out often even worse behaviour. I couldn't bear that, I just want a peaceful life. That's just me.
My husband seems not too bothered.
So true, there is a tv show called "Fear thy Neighbor" based on true stories how so much violence escalates between neighbors over small incidents like barking dogs. Also, I wouldn't make suggestions to the neighbors over how to control the barking, they may feel insulted or take offense.

IMHO, Best to say how you hear the little dog barking when they leave and how the dog sounds distressed. Showing concern for their dog may win them over to take action. Coming across as a complaining neighbor may only annoy them and stop them from taking action.
