Neighbours dog barks nonstop at times

Ouch! OK, let's put our heads together. Frogs against mosquitoes, Lady bugs against plant lice, llamas against foxes and wolves, cats against mice. What predator loves eating frogs? Alligators?
Actually as they would say in the UK you are spot on because baby alligators are born during frog matting season and frogs are their main diet .

I do not know if want baby gators in my yard , lol .

There used to be a lot of garter and water snakes which also devoured them but few years ago Green Ameivas which are now here to stay moved in and they have wiped out the snakes .

Am I wrong in assuming the Green Amevias like frogs too?

Lol oh I am sure they do but they are not nocturnal like the tree frogs and can not climb like garter snakes can .

The Green Ameivas to make your point have wiped out the cane toads which are not arboreal so something here is always killing something and as you know though Cuban treefrogs are noisy they are not lethal if bit / eaten by a dog like cane toads are so the cane toads being eaten by ameivas which seem immune to their toxin is a good thing .

Plenty of dogs in Florida have died by going in the yard biting a cane toad . We had 2 residents in my area before the ameivas appeared who lost dogs due to cane toads .

The ameivas resemble the ones in Turkey (where I used to visit often), harmless and shy to humans. There are a gazillion of them but I never went out at night to see if they are active then. It seems to me those are the ones to bet on. But ...... we have to solve Rose65's problem with a barking dog first. :)

I always feel sorry for the dog. Upstairs over our condo suite, when the couple leave their dog, it howls. But it is not usually for very long at all, maybe two hours at most.
I love dogs. I really do. It is because of my love for dogs that I don't own one. Leaving them home alone. Pulling them by the neck just because they want a sniff or meet another dog. WARNING: Dog owners! Do not read this post. Imagine yourself in solitary confinement for a crime you did not commit and total obedience expected of you 24/7. And what about being tethered to a bicycle FORCED into loping a gait that is unnatural to your ability, trying to keep your balance at the whim of the human who owns you.

I need to leave the house each week for several hrs for a shopping trip. My new dog who is still familiarizing himself to me and his surrounds I leave inside my flat
un-tethered! First few times had fingers crossed but nothing amiss - sure he doesn't know where I am or when will be back but no mess at all - he just welcomes me back with a few tailwags - I'm puzzled why people can't leave their dogs in the comfort of indoors?? - tethering them outside is asking for an increase in anxiety and outpouring of dog barks??

We need to imagine ourselves in that position and then see if we can answer your questions. Why do humans believe in religion? Because we don't understand why we exist but we want to understand. Can we discuss it with others and exchange ideas that might make us feel secure? Yes. What about the single dog locked up in a room or being pulled about by some human who doesn't even care about phycological torment, a headache or a tick that is causing great discomfort?

So true, there is a tv show called "Fear thy Neighbor" based on true stories how so much violence escalates between neighbors over small incidents like barking dogs. Also, I wouldn't make suggestions to the neighbors over how to control the barking, they may feel insulted or take offense.

IMHO, Best to say how you hear the little dog barking when they leave and how the dog sounds distressed. Showing concern for their dog may win them over to take action. Coming across as a complaining neighbor may only annoy them and stop them from taking action.
Absolutely my feelings. I will not risk bad feelings. People's lives are busy and pressured, their dog is dear to them. We shall wait and see for now. I will casually mention the matter if and when an opportunity arises naturally. Keeping it not a big deal, though privately it does certainly get on our nerves.

Just toss a treat over the fence. The dog is basically begging for attention or a treat.
They do not like beign forgotten. Love is Love no matter the consequences, thaws what a pooch thinks.

I find recently people don't bother controlling their dogs. When I go to the nearby recreation ground there are often dogs that leap up on me, which I don't want them to do. The owners seem unconcerned.
Recently I was in a small fenced-off area and a large dog came up barking at me. I managed to tell it to back off but the owner didn't even go the "wouldn't hurt a fly" bit - they just didn't care. The dog had one of those yellow collars that may have said Friendly but I still don't want strange dogs running up to me.

That is not acceptable. I wouldn't like it either. People are very insensitive.

When I was a teenager our next door neighbors always had Great Danes. The wife was from the UK and they would always travel back there and leave the dogs in the back yard. They would howl like there was no tomorrow. My bedroom and my parents' bedroom were adjacent to their back yard. After one particular trip, they came home to find their gate was open and the dogs were gone. (No, it wasn't us.) They were found somewhere in an adjacent neighborhood.

After that, they hired to me to babysit their dogs when they traveled. Win/win!
Did I read this correctly? Your neighbours would travel to the UK which is not a one day trip and leave the dogs in the backyard, That is abuse, did someone feed them and put out fresh water? I don't understand some owners, dogs are part of the family and IMO should not be chained up outside or even left outside all year round unless they are working dogs.
There is or was? a device called the egg used indoors to stop dogs barking, emits sounds that only the dogs could hear. A number of dog owners tell me it helped them.

Please do not give the dog treats. First, you are 'rewarding' the dog for unwanted behavior. It barks = it gets treats. Second, you do not know if said treat is ok for that dog to eat.

I would try leaving an anonymous letter in their box or on their door. Be kind - they may not know the dog barks when they are gone. Also, it is a new to them dog and probably has some fears & anxiety going on being with new people in a new place.
