Years ago when I occasionally helped others with their Windows computers, what I often saw was incredibly disorganized messes due to users not understanding what their software and applications were doing saving files with emails the worst. No wonder they couldn't find many things. This was why Microsoft eventually created all those special folders like Documents, My Pictures, Downloads, etc to help the ignorant. Note, I never use any of them because I can do that myself.
Just ran Properties on my:
ILC digital camera folders... 128,714 files
Compact digital camera files... 43,454 files
4x5, 35mm, and miscellaneous... 8,000 files
Note my ILC camera files that I began adding since 2012, include focus stacking originals. I have about 25 image shots that are combined for every processed image. My Sony a6700 bracket function will efficiently decrease new original shot files by about one-half.
As someone working in high tech since the earliest era, especially computers, I learned to be very organized with considerable labyrinths of folder hierarchies and well thought out file naming schemes. Removing unnecessary files is a regular periodic task. My ILC and 4x5 film photography image files are highly organized under Excel files. I can locate any field work, images, and image descriptions quickly. When I begin public exhibitions with large 8k displays, will rely on such organized information.
