Class Reunion

A Facebook member of my alumni has suggested we get together for a reunion next spring. Already she seems to have put herself in charge and has her heart set on having an outdoor clam steam. A few people have responded that they weren't keen on the clam steam idea (for one reason or another - allergies to shellfish, just doesn't like seafood, doesn't like to eat outdoors, or doesn't like the idea of having to pay for an expensive meal if they aren't going to avail themselves of all of it). Some objected that this person has made decisions without even having a meeting to discuss it.

I suggested an inexpensive restaurant nearby where people could have a variety of foods to choose. No one responded to my suggestion. Of course, whenever two or more people are involved, not everyone is going to be pleased. Has anyone else run into this problem organizing an reunion? If so, how did you handle it?

Our reunions have always been run by our alumni association and have been held in banquet halls.. with dinner and dancing. Everyone seemed pleased,. Never heard of a clam bake one.. well.. we wouldn't do that anyway not in Chicago..

I think that must be my sister in law you're talking about. This woman has hijacked and honchoed every affair she has ever been associated with. Then she spends the net year bitching because she got no help or cooperation!
Clam bakes suck, usually 30 bucks a head, then seeing as I don't eat clams I get to eat sausage and salt potatoes.
I would not become involved iffen I were in your drawers! Then again I have never been to a high school reunion. Didn't like the arrogant lil bastards 40 years ago, don't like em any better now!

Post back something on the order of...
"Maggie you are so thoughtful to begin putting together a reunion. It will be exciting to visit with many of the classmates we haven't seen for years. We need to get a tentative date set so all can be making plans to attend. The goal will be to get as many of our fellow students to take part. Even though your suggestion of a clam steam is a good one, it sounds like quite a few of the classmates would not take part in the festivities. It would be good to hear alternative suggestions from the rest of the class. One possible option might be to have a weekend set aside. On Saturday afternoon/evening, we would meet and visit and eat at a local restaurant. Then, on Sunday, have an afternoon cookout... including the clam steam... for those who wanted to participate in that activity. Thanks again for starting the ball rolling!"

Ours, too. Usually over a weekend with things at the school and dinner and dancing at a hall or country club or something like that. And the dinner with a choice of foods to accommodate different tastes, diets, allergies and so forth. No clam bakes in New Mexico, either.
