Books! How do you read and what do you read?

We’re reading this for our Mystery book club…. I don’t really care for it at first (no—IMO— sympathetic characters and kind of creepy Gothic/ suspense vibe) but by 1/2 way through I was invested, basically the morbid fascination of watching a train derail in slow motion or something 🙄🤔

In fact I’ve seldom finished R Rendell’s books… dk they just give me the willies most if the time. Anyone else feel that way?

I also like to read eBooks on my Kindle. Currently, I am reading on that device, "America: the Last Best Hope." (one volume edition). It is a fascinating history of America, home to almost all of us here.

Sounds like everyone's reading some really interesting books. I'm forcing myself to not go on Amazon and order some of them!

I'm just about to start Hunter Davies' The Beatles. My younger daughter got it for me for Christmas a few years ago. I stuck it on the shelf with my other Beatles/music books and promptly forgot about it. Remembering that I have it was a very pleasant surprise.

@CinnamonSugar, I've read only one of Ruth Rendell's books, but I can't recall the name. I even skimmed a list of her titles, but it didn't prompt a memory. I did enjoy the book, though. I like creepy stuff, though, just a personal preference. I'll have to take another look, and if I can remember which one I read, I'll post it.

I've picked up a number of books I had on hold at the library. My wife and I are reading Ann Patchett's Truth & Beauty. She is a novelist but the book is more like remembrance of her college days with a poet friend who had a disfiguring treatment for a deadly childhood disease. We're enjoying it enough that we can't wait to move on to an actual novel. First up will be one written by a friend called Out of the Wild which I've already read but think Lia will enjoy too.

Then I have Anam Cara on hand which isn't a novel. It was written by the poet John O'Donohue subtitled A Book on Celtic Wisdom. Not sure if we'll stick it out with that one or if I'll end up reading it separately. Lia used to read us books out loud when we were on long car trips and when we were camping. So we're recreating something here.

@ Pinky,, glad to read that you enjoyed that book.

You might enjoy this one....... AVA'S MAN. by Rick Bragg.

It cover's his grandparent's lives growing up & raising a family.
@Sliverfox

Thank you for the recommendation! If I can get it in Large Print, I will order it from the library :)
