My debit card number was hacked!!

Went to the pharmacy the other day to pick up meds. The lady told me my debit card was declined. She did not know why and suggested I go to the bank. Luckily I had another way to pay.
Anyway, next stop bank. She checked for me and said there were two recent charges for some sports betting thing. Nope, not me. So she suspended my card (no future transations) and put in for me to get a new card and new number. They put the two disputed charges back into my account.
I did have some cash at home, but I took out $75 to hold me over. In case I go grocery shopping before new card comes.
So, this is a reminder to check your statements regularly. I usually did weekly, but going to do it more often once new card is active

@Marie5656
I think this is everyone's worst nightmare. If only there was a way to find the heathens who hack credit cards .. it just makes me so angry 😔

Maybe it's over the top, but, I check my balance every day - and, always after a cc transaction.

Sorry Marie!
I only use my debit at the ATM on the Air Force base. The other day it declined my card. I went inside the BX to the satellite branch and the teller said there'd been some problems. She asked if I wanted her to order a new card. I was able to get cash there without it so I won't likely use it. DH is checking everyday for unusual activity.

We check our balances everyday also.

Maria! I’m so sorry this happened to you. Luckily you caught it early.

I've had my debit and one credit card hacked--never lost the cards; they say the crooks have software that comes up with card number combos and they keep trying 'till they hit on one that works and use it to purchase. I usually check my financial accounts once a day; it's frustrating that that's the world we live in now, sigh.

Marie, sorry this happened to you. So are you responsible for those hacked charges now? When someone put almost $500 worth of different item in Target on my credit card, they put a stop on the card, looked into it quickly, said I would be credited the hacked amount in full, then promptly sent me a new credit card, I believe it was Bank of America. I never had a debit card, I heard rumors about them years ago that someone could drain your bank account and you had no recourse to get your money back.

I've had a few lost or damaged cards I have had to replace. Also when I've made a questionable purchase in a rush without checking and canceled the card. But I always carry cash, and keep a stash at home. Some people don't believe in cash these days.

Not responsible......bank charged them back to my account. Sending me a new card with a new number. Cancelled old card

Im so sorry this happened to you. Glad you got your money back.
Personally, I prefer credit cards over debit cards. Ive heard horror stories of people having their bank accounts drained by debit card.

Does your bank offer alerts. Every day my bank sends me an email with a balance updates.
I also have alerts on my checking and credit cards. Anything over a dollar generates an instant alert and they send me an email.
Last week I went to the Piggly Wiggly and by the time I got to the parking lot I had an email.

My card is linked with Master Card, so I can use it as either. I misspoke in saying it was just a debit....I always use the credit option/ I can check my bank balance on line.....a "new purchase" will show as pending until it clears
