Left: It's amazing: we are in a drought, but the local mountains still have some snow patches in May at 11,500 feet (Mt. San Gorgonio)
Right: The first taste of summer. Luckily it's only only a heat wave. The real heat will start in another month, and we already had 119.8 F
We are located perhaps 1,000 feet higher than @StarSong and have it either hotter or colder than people down in the valleys.

In hot weather, a hawk spreads its wings to catch a breeze .........My beloved Mockingbird sings and sings on a telephone pole.

My wife is allergic to dog hair, and I have to wash dog beddings for my 3 large Boxer pups at a Laundromat.
18 dog blankets for $6.50 and drying at home on the 100+ feet long dog running line. In this hot weather, it will take only 1/2 hour.

it's a beautiful site tho' seeing snow in the distance..isn't it ? It's the same in Spain, the sun is shining , it's hot but in the distance the snow is looking glorious on the mountain top

Way back in the way back when I was a cleaning fairy, the only things I ever really wanted my clients to do before I got there were to hang up or put away their clothes and towels and pick up their kids' toys off the floor. Did they? No. Dirty clothes everdamwhere, wet towels on the bathroom floor and toys...usually Legos...all over the floor. Legos all over the floor almost always in very small bedrooms that were hard to navigate to begin with:mad:, and I wasn't allowed to disturb their creative efforts.

I've since been delivered from being a cleaning fairy. Yay.

a cleaner is very different from a tidier upper..... people don't seem to understand that

How close was that bear ?
80 yards; from the safety of the car. During the week we saw 2 from the car that were very close, another at considerable distance through a spotting scope, and one from camp.

Some wolf/bear devotees see as many as 20 grizzlies a day from the road. They have a good number of people that communicate sightings privately.

@againstthegrain When we drove through Idaho, we didn't see that much. But I have never seen as much
wildlife in my live as in Alaska. Inside the Denali Nat. Park, we saw 8 bears within a few hours. It was an unforgettable trip.
Anchorage supposedly harbors a thousand moose within city limits, and we were as close as just a few feet from them.

In 1970, I stayed in Jasper / Alberta at a youth hostel. In the morning, I looked out of the window and saw a bear on top of my Chevy Impala car. Luckily, there was no damage to my car. In those days, cars were built sturdier than nowadays.

On the same trip, in the Banff Nat. Park, I explored a trail. Coming to a lookout and getting to the edge of a steep down slope, a bear was coming up just a few feet from me. I jumped back into my car, and the bear climbed up a tree. Well, I waited till the bear had come down and had disappeared before I dared to get out of my car again.

Again on that trip, and just a few miles from the Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton, Alberta, I was hiking on a narrow trail on a large slope. Coming around a corner, a huge elk came towards me. I froze and didn't know what to do. But the elk knew. It jumped upslope in a narrow half circle around me back on the trail. I never would have been able to do what the elk had done. It was one of the most incredible moments in my life.

BTW, the 1970 camping trip was to find peace and strength in nature after the divorce from my first wife. We had split as friends, but it still hurt. Actually, after our divorce and before my camping trip to Canada, we had gone on a camping trip to Europe, but it had been too late to make up. The Alaska trip above was with my second wife.

So far, it has been a good day, I did sleep all day, did not get up until 5PM. I believe this is connected to the UTI. Although I did get to the doc yesterday, I was not able to pick up the meds. By the time woke yesterday, the pharmacy was closed.

First thing, throw on a tshirt and shorts, race to CVS, got the meds. Came home, had a bite to eat in order to take the pill.

Next, out to the backyard (Jungle) to cut down overgrowth. I had a couple of new tools ready to try out. I bought these over a month ago. A new sawza and a small little chainsaw. I must say, they both work well and are easy to handle for an old lady.

Only drawback, I was about 30 minutes in, then the chain fell off the saw. Alrighty, took up the sawza and it was happy to help me get a lot done. I am not finished but I am pleased. I stopped when I was tired and because there was a lot of skin itching. Came in, nice warm shower makes all the difference.

Threw a load of laundry in and parked myself on the couch. I hope to get some more done tomorrow. A little more trimming, drag my big trash cans to the back so I can clean up all the cuttings. I also need to go fill the gas cans for the mower. I have hired a lawn guy but I want to try again. I did buy a really nice toro last year.

The son used it last year when he was cutting the yard but I have not learned how to start it yet. It has an electric start. I will read the manual. I told son I would use the yard guy or try myself. He got a management position at work, there are a lot more hours involved. They also have a 12 year old that is already pushing for more independence. The child is not ready for that yet. Other friends are getting up after bedtime to play video games or go online. Not allowed at his house so there is a lot of grounding, taking gadgets away and more chores. He is a wonderful kid, never any problem, peer pressure is a hard thing.

it's not a ransom... it's to ensure people take the cart ( trolley) back to the trolley station and not leave them abandoned all over the car park. The money is refunded...
Exactly so. I have no objection to sliding a quarter into the cart and getting it back when returning the cart to the corral, because it means not having to deal with carts throughout the lot.

Oftentimes, I see someone in the lot pushing an empty cart - I ask if they're returning it. When they say, "Yes," I hand them a quarter and save them the trip.

@hollydolly, despite it being only 25¢, people almost always return their carts. Abandoned ones are soon claimed by incoming shoppers who are a quarter to the plus before getting into the store!

yes same thing happens here , but mostly people use tokens... which they keep on their keyrings, so they don't have to scramble for a coin

this type of thing...they're the exact same size as a pound coin... most people have a few.. keep one in th car..one on their keys etc...

I prefer this type...

I just use a quarter - have one on my keyring in a little gizmo Aldi gave DD during a grand opening. She had a couple and shared one my way.

I feel terrible today. Some sort of summer cold, hay fever or one of the numerous bugs that seem to go around. Mrs. L had something similar last month, but it only lasted a couple of days. Hope this doesn't last as we're heading off for a couple of days midweek.

Hopefully we'll be OK to do some gardening today in spite of my sniffles and Mrs.L's aches. We've got lots of flowers to plant out.

I'm tired. We're back from Bathfest.
GD won third place with her chicken! Yay! 🐔
They also have a fashion show for the chicken and rabbits with the owner dressing up along with theirs.
We saw all kinds of great costumes. Everyone got a ribbon for that.
We'll rest and next week all three grands will come here for a few days. SIL has a business trip. My daughter can rest and relax.
I hope someone got pics to share.....

It's morning again. It's a rainy morning again. Only three more days to go before the sun comes out. Wednesday. We'll see the sun on Wednesday. By Wednesday I'll be so far down that I'll have to reach up to tie my shoes. I could never live in Seattle.

It isn't raining right now so I'm gonna get dressed and take a turn around the garden.

DD and I are cooking Mother's Day dinner. Yup. Oven "fried" chicken is my part. DD is making the sides and peanut butter pie for dessert.

If I get lucky, I'll get a garden center gift card for a Mother's Day gift.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY ALL YOU MOM'S!!!!
