Just had some confusion about an ad on Marketplace

I had an ad for 7 heavy wooden clothes hangers on Marketplace. It stated clearly in the ad that they were $1 each or all for $5. A man contacted me about them and wanted to buy them. When he came he scooped all of them up and handed me a dollar bill. I told him it clearly said in the ad that they were $1 each or all for $5. He said he only saw the picture and the $1 price. I said he had to read the whole ad. At least he was nice about it and gave me the $5 for the whole lot.

I have the same probem with buyers..they just don't read the whole advert...so I get people mailing me to ask what size or colour yet it's there in large print for them to see.. It's very annoying.
 
That same thing about an ad I had on CraigsList - a lemonade /iced tea beverage set for $1. The person said she was interested and kept mailing me and asking what the price was. I must have told her 3 times the beverage set was $1. I guess she gave up. Probably a scammer.

The wooden hangers in my closet are all from old local businesses and are worth more than the clothing that is on them.

They didn't sell at my garage sale; I didn't even notice anyone even looking at them. I could hold out for a higher price, which is what they are probably worth, but like others have said, in effect, about my messages - sell cheap and get rid of it. Considering all the places I had them listed, I only had this one response. If someone else thinks he can make a profit on them - go ahead and good luck.
 
I think you need to look at all the things you have from a new perspective. If you donate them now while you’re able, you will keep them out of a landfill and someone will be able to use them. I know you’re in a rural area but if you have a bunch of stuff many thrift stores will come to your house to pick up with the truck since it’s worth it to them.

One day you’re going to be gone and someone else is going to deal with your home and its contents. They are not going to take the time to donate it. They’re going to inherit the house and call 1- 800 got junk to take all your stuff to the landfill.

Personally, this horrifies me as I am trying to keep as many things out of the landfill as possible. This has been a great motivator for me to both downsize my possessions and to donate or give away anything that I can’t sell for at least $20.
 
Here we go again. I've been going around and around with someone on Marketplace with an item I posted. Apparently they won't commit to a specific day and time, unless I post my address, claiming they need to know a specific address so they can schedule a time. I won't post my address unless they specify to a day and time. It's a standoff.

absolutely not... you're totally right to not give out your address... just block 'em... someone's up to no good...
 
Nope, @hollydolly is right, Deb... block them or whatever you need to do to stop contact. I can't think of any possible reason someone would need to know an address first in order to "schedule a time"... those two things don't have anything to do with each other. Actually, even if they relent now, I wouldn't give them an address later if they say they scheduled a time. Smells 🐟.

Sadly the world isn't what it was 20-30 years ago and we need to think of these things now.
