Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease

Just wanted to let you all know that I am facing yet another health challenge. Was put on Rytary. Am not taking to it well. Have appointment for a second opinion, but since it's with the Parkinson's Institute it is not until September. May find a crappier place for a second opinion so I can get it faster.

I am extremely depressed, which I understand makes it worse.

Hence the unbearable shaking.
I was diagnosed with PD 4 years ago. As you know PD affects people differently; from cognitive to physical or a combination of symptoms. Fortunately my meds (two pills of sinemet every 4 hours during the day) and a lot of exercise are slowing its progress. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is proving a great advancement in treatment for some patients. I pray your docs find a treatment that helps you. Feel free to start a SF private conversation with me if you wish.

I pray a solution to your health problem has a cure! 🙏I know well the unbearable shaking; mine is Essential Tremor full body shaking every moment of every day. No meds help.

Like everyone else here I am so, so sorry to hear this.

I'm wishing the very best from the second opinion, while thinking of my uncle who had it and kept active with it for about 20 years -- like Mack's father.

I watched OldFeller's clips and the best part I read was, "Parkinson’s disease takes years to develop."

Hi Pepper = thanks for all your support over time and chin up - good job we don't all come visiting at the same time it would be quite a squash and a bit overwhelming! - I have seen some TV coverage of surgical interventions that if done accurately can stop tremors immediately - so just another one for your l list - show the doc you know what ya talkin about and done ya research! love xxxx

I'm so sorry, this is such a hard thing for you. I wish you strength and comfort.

@Pepper 🤗🤗

You know research has come a long way regarding PD and many other illnesses …with new improved treatments and exercise therapy

My hubs sisters …husband ~ has had PD for 10 years ….and altho it seems to show different symptoms in many sufferers , BIL is just starting to get some shaking , he doesn’t shuffle like some do …he still drives …still plays golf twice a week

Hope this eases your mind a little 🤗

I am really sorry Pepper. Parkinson’s runs rampant in my dad’s side of the family and all the men got it. I actually did the health testing when I did my DNA for 23 and me to see if I carried the gene. You can definitely get Parkinson’s without carrying the gene and it’s one of my biggest fears. Sending hugs for you.

This is a definite Diagnosis is it ?.. who diagnosed you ? I ask because my father had PD but he didn't have body shaking, and neither did anyone else at the beginning of their diagnosis, only a slight tremor in a finger or in ther jaw...

Also there's many other first signs..like body stiffness etc, which I don't remember you mentioning before..
Hollydolly: My father was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease when he was in his early 70's. He had tremors, a stoop walking and endless rolling of the fingers. He eventually was told it was Parkinsons with a blood test. He suffered with it for 18 years and ended up in a nursing home. He lost his ability to speak, and it was a blessing when he did pass away.

Pepper, your mind is your greatest asset. l've seen you overcome so much time and time again and you still
have the same mental and, yes. spiritual strength as well. You are the strongest woman l have ever known.
And you have so much love close to you. You don't need to ever feel alone, You are loved.

Oh dear, Pepper, I am stuck for words, illness of any kind,
later in life is awful and harder to get rid of, but Parkinson's
is not as bad as it used to be, I know several people who are
Afflicted with it and you wouldn't know.

I wish you well, get better quickly.

Mike

Sorry to hear about your PD diagnosis. I hope you have made arrangement on your estate etc, so you can now focus on your treatment/therapy plan.
