Do you ever request a "senior discount" when buying goods or services?

I do with contractors, but they seem to have a pat answer - "We give EVERYONE the best price we can." Some will say "You should have mentioned that before I gave you the estimate." What difference should that make? So they can juggle the price up to make it look like a bargain giving a discount?

No, I just never think about it, especially if it's daily stuff. However if it's part of a service like insurance or something health related discount that's advertised regularly. It's not like I'm going into Denny's at 3 pm for the senior meal discount or 'Blue Bird Special'

I never think about discounts, I believe they're just a racket.

Yep, pretty much.

IMO most of the discounts offered by contractors are fake and the contractors should be considered suspect.

The same with the contractors that prominently display the ichthys symbol (or "Jesus fish").

If a large corporation or big box store offers a discount of any kind I take it but I never expect it.

IMO the couple with six kids probably needs/deserves a discount more than I do.

Why should we expect any sort of a break or discount simply because we are old? 🤔

that's what they do

A few places the employee may apply it or offer it
i do not think we have ever asked other then for example on tickets to buy the senior priced one instead of just adult ticket.

No. We seniors have it made. We get free money from the government (Social Security) and government subsidized health care (Medicare). We're in better shape than most of the poor working schmucks out there. Why should we get a discount on top of all that? I do however take advantage of any veteran's discounts that I can get.

It would be nice to get a senior discount on Medicare or better yet get it free. I paid into it for 48 years. I never asked for a discount, but I order from the seniors menu if it is offered. One mom and pop place always gives us a break and we leave that break added to the tip. I do the same with my hairdresser. I get my cut for $5 less than those under 60, so I leave her an additional $5 to my normal $5 tip. She works for one of those hourly wage places, so she depends on tips to make a reasonable wage. I like to reward hard working people.
