The Sneakiest Added Pricing

I recently was charged $5 extra for paying a utility bill on the phone.
I used to pay it by check in the mail. Still no extra charge for that method.
I thought they'd prefer it by phone.

While we was away in Queensland we shopped at Aldi quite a bit and used my card as the Aldi in QLD are mostly self serve with on manned check out ….after I arrive home and sorted all the receipts in my bag I noticed each time I paid I was charged Sur tax for using my card …..

I asked at my local Aldi in SA today and she said if I’d chosen ( savings account ) when paying I wont get charged the extra tax ….whats the difference it’s all coming from one account …..we’ve been warned enough …now they are pushing for a no cash shopping
Not sure how it is in Oz, but the difference may be in using a debit card, or a credit card. The debit card charge comes right out of your bank account, whereas a credit card entails a billing cycle.

We don’t have a credit Card attached to our cards ….we pay for what we buy right there and then …. we live by if we haven’t got the cash we simply don’t buy ….we pay a Goods and Service GST on most things except food .

The surtax is being charged by businesses who are claim the banks are now charging them ..with the push for cash free shopping .

Was the 60 cents for the package material, or for a labor charge? 🫣🙄😳
It had to be for the labour of walking to the kitchen. We had two boxes, charge for one. I‘ll wager most people glance at the bill. That’s what they count on. A penny here, a penny there. It can all add for them. 60 cents made no difference to my bottom line. A little extra padding for them. Charge was for “one packaging”.

It’s not just this restaurant. Watch out for ‘service fees’, especially in tourist zones.

Anyone remember when Wendy’s used to charge ten cents for tomato and ten cents for extra cheese? However, if you ordered something without cheese they didn’t subtract ten cents.

I think that is a bank issue and rule set by the bank rather than an Aldi issue.

A few years ago, I was at a restaurant in Melbourne with my sister and her daughter. We each had a nice meal, but her daughter asked if she could have a takeaway box as she couldn't eat any more. They said "No", because of health reasons, if she got sick overnight and blamed the restaurant there would be only her word against there's because of food storage. She ended up leaving the food. And today I was with my son and ordered 2 coffees and one slice of Raisin Toast. They said i have to take 2 slices because if I took 1 slice, they would still charge me for 2 slices.????????

Most places I have got a takeaway box they have a sticker on it saying ' food safety for takeaway boxes at customers risk' or words to that effect

To cover themselves for that possibility.
