Medicaid and Food Stamps may be abolished!!!

true!

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) must provide treatment to anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay.
That act is to ensure public access to hospital emergency services regardless of a person's ability to pay in instances of an emergency medical condition, or active labor, and to provide stabilizing treatment for those patients. It imposes specific obligations on Medicare-participating hospitals, whereas prior to the act, some hospitals had refused emergency care, based on insurance and ability to pay.

The act does not include routine medical care or serve as a replacement or substitute for Medicare, Medicaid, or other types of insurance coverage.

The last four years?
Medicare fraud has been going on since it's inception in 1965.
How about what was going on six years ago?

From the FBI, 2019
True, Medicare fraud has been going on for years. I referred to the last four years because of all the lies and scams that can't be discussed here because they are politics without a doubt. They had nothing or little to do with Medicaid, but I mentioned it because the same folks that spouted one scary claim after another, now proven false, are now yelling about Medicare and ,Medicaid getting cut. 100,000 poor folks are going to die ya de ya de ya de. Pure nonsense!

According to one of my Grandsons, a paramedic/fireman Captain on the Rez, they expect to get more funding after a certain bill is law. One of my daughters best friend is a Rural Clinic Nurse practitioner, and she says they expect to get more funding. I have to think the folks working in these fields, get info others don't.

But the last four years were specified which was most interesting to me.

And I did not assert the portion in bold above.

Medical workers in the field(s) cannot project future funding outcomes since those have not yet been determined, and much of it in hanging in the balance due to pending legislation.

There is and has always been fraud - -since beginning of time. The issue is to keep it at a minimum best as possible.
Looks can be deceiving - yes some people work the system, but a nice car is an asset if you might have to go homeless,as you will be living in it. Other people should butt out of other peoples food carts.Sometimes a splurge can help lift a person up when they are down on their luck.

My well thought of Dr. had a sign very prominent at the Window of the receptionist in his waiting room.

No Medicare patients accepted here.
It still was at least a 45-minute Waite on average.
Some years later he partnered up with a couple young Dr's and accepted Medicare.

Maybe I'm dense, but I'm missing what the lady's skin color has to do with anything. And I do think it's important to remember that debt is not factored into SNAP eligibility... that Mercedes could have someone in deep debt for 20 years. Yep, playing devil's advocate here, but it *is* something to consider. The other end of it is the richest person I know (multi millions) goes shopping in t-shirts and sweats and drives an old Toyota. Book by it's cover? Often not.
I just related the story as my sister told it. Perhaps I didn't omit that part because there's a stereotype that only Blacks and people of color are on welfare and food assistance. I'm sensitive to that and in fact, tired of that misconception, so I'm sure subconsciously that was a factor and I don't apologize for it.

Atta girl! Don't apologize for telling a story with important details. Being new, I omitted some details I might have included had I been on here for years. I plan to stay off politics threads, since there is no consensus on what constitutes politics. I only returned to this thread because I was moved by your post.

Thank you so much for letting me know that ❣️

People have always died in this country from lack of health insurance. Hospitals only have to treat true emergencies and many people such as diabetics die because they can’t afford their insulin.

Medicaid was expanded in many states. I think it was four years ago to help prevent this from happening. Various groups are making predictions based off of how big the Medicare expansion was and the increasing number of people that were covered. Obviously, it’s a guessing game because nobody knows how much they’re going to cut Medicaid. The lowest estimate I have for people dying because of having no health insurance was 50 K and the highest I have seen was 100 K.

Not one life should be lost in this country because of lack of healthcare or money to buy your medication’s. Most other countries take care of their Citizens healthcare. It’s very popular to make false claims and the government uses it to convince people that there is a lot of fraud and waste happening so that when they cut these programs people don’t think there’s any problem with doing that. They don’t see the real people behind these decisions and how they suffer, and yes, even die.

I was the guardian for a friend of mine that was in a nursing home with dementia once her husband died. After her money ran out she only had Social Security. I had to apply for Medicaid for her. If her bank account went a penny over 2K in any month She would lose her Medicaid. The government was very strict about that.

80% of people in nursing homes end up on Medicaid once they run out of money. All of their income goes to the nursing home to pay their bills and then Medicaid supplements the rest. Last I knew the resident got to keep $50 per month for incidentals. Those people could end up on the street and that is not fear mongering.

If our country did not have the means to pay for people to have health insurance and have their medication’s, that would be one thing. However, when we take money from poor people to give it to extremely wealthy people, that’s a disgrace, unethical and inhumane.

I looked up the stats and from what I could find 50% of people in this country with full-time jobs do not have health insurance through their employment. Yes, people can buy ACA insurance if they can afford it. People that cannot afford it end up on Medicaid. The working poor certainly deserve health insurance.

Most people on Medicaid are seniors, children, and people with disabilities. maybe granny should get a job and work until she drops and little kids should go back to the coal mines all so that the wealthy can pile up their money like Scrooge. Once upon a time this country had no middle class. You had extreme poverty where people went hungry and lacked basic needs. At the other end, you had the extremely wealthy people. Is this what some of you would like to return to?

Yes, they must save their life and or stabilize them. They do not provide continuing care or supply medication beyond the emergency care that many people such as diabetics need on a daily basis. There are many instances of people not being able to afford their insulin and dying, and it includes young people.

Beautifully said, thank you.

When a members personal experiences, observations, understanding, and opinions or of lesser value than "quote your sources" which depends on info from a non forum member, or "here are my credentials, how about you," or other statements meant to gain dominance over another member and the admiration of other forum members, then for me that topic is dead.

When one touts their credentials, how does anyone know they are truthful? And what if they are, so what? I am not impressed with credentials as evidence that someone has superior knowledge about another's personal experience or even their concept from watching the news. It wouldn't surprise me if the most intelligent and observant person on this forum, never finished the 8th grade and cleaned restrooms their entire life.

I enjoy members personal ideas and not just the repeating or reposting of articles or ideas found on the internet. The interesting thing is we can all see the same thing, but have a different concept of what happen.

We all saw the chicken cross the road, that we agree, but we can argue why they did it. It isn't necessary to call in an outside poultry expert with a Doctorate or take the observations of a member that has raised chickens all their life, as the facts, instead we must consider that no one saw any concrete reason for the chicken crossing the road. We can all argue until it becomes a foul, fowl topic. :ROFLMAO:

Just for information that might help a member here using a food card, please freeze your card after using and it is easy to unfreeze it before using. This will prevent any skimming from occurring.

The only major change at this time with the food card SNAP program, is not replacing stolen benefits from skimming.

The reason the government has stopped replacing benefits reported as skimmed, is because it was adding up to millions of dollars in replacement benefits, monthly. Some of the investigations revealed that a few food card users themselves, were claiming skimming when they just used all their benefits, however the majority of the theft appears to be organized and beyond control.

Way too much tax payer dollars spent to investigate it and stop skimming. Much easier just to ask recipients to take some personal responsibility just like they do with their credit card. Also don't shop any place that might have skimmers and also keep your card in a non skim sleeve. Freezing is the recommended method for effective prevention.

So for the honest that are using these food benefits responsibly, please freeze your card after using. Take personal responsibility, please. This info comes from the Attorney Generals webpage on the issue.

I remember and old quote: "Live for today for tomorrow we die." That is a motto every old person should follow. All of us could die at any moment so we must enjoy every day as if it was our last.

For me living and dying inside the computer game, "Civilization VI," has become my entire life. Other than that I just eat and sleep. That game can last many months before we conquer the world or die trying. Almost all the time I do die trying. I am 90 so far. Most 90 year old men die by 95.
