Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians! So happy that I live here!!
Thanks for that great overhead video shot of the Canada Day ball game at Rogers Center, in Toronto. JIM.
Second best... I tried to find one from yesterday's game that would play on SF. The ones I located were on news channels, and I could not upload them here. So I uploaded from Youtube. Thanks for that great overhead video shot of the Canada Day ball game at Rogers Center, in Toronto. JIM.
I see you live in MASS. A long time ago, in the 60's Dunkin Donuts expanded into eastern Canada, specifically Ontario and Quebec. They opened a lot of locations, mostly in smaller towns here. They were head to head in competition with Tim Horton's locations, some times across the street from one another in a main street in a town of 5000 people.Ahh-h, Tim Horton's - - - -my kind of place !!
Sadly I just looked it up and the Tim Hortons' in Rhode Island, as well as those in Conn. closed in 2010. Guess I'm a bit behind times.I see you live in MASS. By the late 90's, the number of Dunkin locations was down to only about 15 stores, all in the Montreal area. Why? The head office in the States failed to properly fund advertising for the Canadian franchise owners , and refused to spend any money on store renovations or improved signage or even repaving the aging parking lots. They let it die. Now there are no Dunkin locations anywhere in Canada.
Krispy Kream also came to Canada about the year 2005, with a great amount of hoop la, and for a while, they did very well. In the major cities, KK locations seemed to be opening every other week for about 3 years. Then the customers started to not buy the product. Too greasy, too sugary, not enough variety. Now in 2025, there are only a very FEW KK locations here. None in the western Provinces, only a few in Ontario and Quebec. KK tried the idea of selling pre made donuts in gas stations here and at 7-11 stores, but that idea quickly died as the customers didn't like the fact that the product sat on the shelves too long and the taste was poor.
Tim's has over 4,000 locations in Canada, about 750 locations in the USA, and a further 1250 locations in other parts of the world. It is a truly international business. The original store in Hamilton, Ontario, is still operating right across the street from a giant STELCO steel making plant. The second floor of the store is now the Tim Horton museum, dedicated to the Founder, NHL star player, Tim Horton. JIM.
It was Ryan Reynolds who was inducted. Both are good men, imo.Ryan Gosling was inducted by the Govenor General yesterday in Ottawa, as a Member of the Order of Canada, for his work with Canadian based charities,
