Do we Seniors Eat Too Much Fruit?

Michael, I agree.

eat mostly whole fresh foods and only avoid any foods that have a specific issue for you.

The idea that everyone should avoid grapefruit or any of the other fruits listed ( I started watching but he took so long to get to the point that I stopped at grapefruit) is just, as you said, quacky scare mongering.

I can eat fresh home grown fruit till it comes out of my ears, I love it, but fruit that has been brought from the far flung parts of the planet, chilled for weeks or the use of gas to help it stay fresh I'm not so keen on.
I keep some tinned fruit in my cupboard for those times when I can't get a home delivery or I can't get out, still nice with ice cream though. 😊

I would not pay ANY attention to one of these quacky scare videos.
Absolutely. For every so-called "expert" making these claims for content/income generation on YouTube, there will be just as many others saying those very same fruits are essential for a senior to eat. It's all a bunch of malarkey. (now there's a word I've rarely used before!)

Of course, common sense has to come into play... people with diabetes hopefully already know which fruits are so high in natural sugars that they need to avoid them... but this "all seniors" recommendation stuff is juvenile when it comes to something like fruit.

I would not pay ANY attention to one of these quacky scare videos. Eat Whole Foods as much as possible, including a lot of fruits and vegetables. Minimize eating of processed foods.

You claim you "would not pay ANY attention" to the video, yet here you are dismissing it without even watching it. How can you be so sure it’s "quacky" if you didn’t bother to see what it actually says?

He never said everyone should avoid grapefruit, he clearly explained that some people should, because it can interfere with certain medications. So, maybe if you had actually paid attention and watched the whole video instead of tuning out when it didn’t suit you, you’d know that. Twisting what someone says without paying attention is exactly how misinformation spreads.

Do you not see, then, the title of "I Am Begging Seniors to Stop Eating These 9 Fruits Now. Destroy Your Heart" as click bait? "Fruits to Avoid While Taking Certain Medications" may have given a tad more credibility, don't ya think?

So your entire argument is about the title, not the actual content you didn’t watch? If you had bothered to watch it, you’d know he explained exactly who should avoid certain fruits and why. Dismissing real information because you don’t like a headline just proves the point: too many people react without paying attention. Hence, watch the video before getting back to me.

View attachment 435135 Sorry, mister... I'm not very good with taking orders. You go ahead and stop eating fruit if it makes you feel better.

Kate, you might want to work on your reading comprehension because I never said I was going to stop eating fruit. I said the video explains why certain people shouldn’t overdo it, which you’d know if you’d actually watched it instead of twisting the point to avoid admitting you didn’t. But sure, keep pretending the title is the whole story, it says plenty about how you "take orders".

Fruit fight! Fruit fight! Get your rain coat!

I apologize if you took offense at a perfectly normal response. It's been fun... but you're trying too hard to get arguments going with those who responded to your thread.

No need to apologize, I’m not offended, just amused that you think calling out lazy reactions is "trying too hard." If actually watching the material before weighing in on it is too much for you, that’s your choice, just don’t expect everyone else to treat ignorance like an argument.

For the record, I watched it and not sure why you're assuming I didn't. For the most part, the information was accurate. The clickbait, however, is very off-putting and misleading.

I eat large servings of fruit daily. There is always a large quantity of fruit available for us to eat. In my fridge right now are strawberries, watermelon, raspberries, apples, blueberries, cherries, blackberries, bananas and grapes. The choices might change depending on what’s on sale/looks fresh etc.

My doctor is aware of my diet, specifically my fruit and vegetable consumption, and is complimentary of it. There’s never been any issue with drug interactions for which I’m thankful. Don’t know how I’d manage if I couldn’t eat all the fruit I wanted.

Amazing, you watched it and still made it all about the title. That’s real dedication to missing the point.

Good for you, Ronni. Some people can’t do that because of drug interactions, which is literally what the video explained for those who didn’t skip it.

Simple for me … if I didn’t eat fruit, I would be loading up on cake, cookies and ice cream. …give me fruit..

Well, if you’re really JustBonee, it might be better for you to skip the fruit altogether and load up on cake, cookies and ice cream.
