It is time to refill your prescription

I've been on a UHC Medicare Advantage Plan for 2 years. In my junk mail folder this morning was an email which appeared to be from UHC, and from all appearances was legitimate, reminding me that it was time to refill one of my prescriptions, and had a link that said "click here for more information about your prescription."

I do not need to refill any of my prescriptions at this time, nor have I ever received an email like that from UHC, so I deleted it without clicking the link. Once deleted, it is gone forever, so I cannot go back to view it again if there are any questions.

Has anyone else received an email like that from UHC recently?

I never have as of yet, but I do get refill reminders from walmart pharmacy.
Yes, Walmart sends me an automated reminder by phone when it's time to refill. Sometimes I get those too many days before I need a refill, so I just punch the no option while on the phone.

if you don't need a refill on anything and you've never gotten an email from them before don't click on anything ever. call them and ask them if you need to.

I called UHC Customer Service to ask if they send emails like that. The agent told me that since I had already deleted the email and could not recover it, she had no way of knowing if it came from UHC or not, and if I get another one, to call them while I still had the email so they could go over the contents with me. She added that sometimes UHC may send various types of emails in promotion of mail in pharmacy options.

Not applicable to me, but if I could give one warning to everybody... whether you think you know a sender or its from somenone you don't know.. then NEVER click on a link in an email.
I have to heartily second this. 👍🏻 Phishing scams have gotten so sophisticated. I never, ever, click on a link in an email; if I think a notification may be legitimate I go directly to the site to log in.

I get reminder emails from my pharmacy but never from my advantage plan.

Call your advantage plan customer service and check, they should have a record.
Also get notifications from the pharmacy. A couple of our daughters take care of our health concerns as we've reached 90. Pharmacies, doctor visits, and most of our banking. Also transport us to MD visits, etc.. A couple of the grandkids (age 23 and 30) also help out with gram and gramp.
Hard to beat a close family as you pass into really old age,

I'm with UHC. They never send me emails. But my prescriptions are handled by GoodRX. For $9.99 per month it's a great deal. They remind me when it is time to refill a prescription, but I also receive texts from my pharmacy when prescriptions are ready.

I get reminders from Optum RX, not from my advantage plan provider, which is Aetna.
We are signed up for automatic refills with OptumRx. That as a service is terrific. When a prescription is due for refill they contact the doctor. Been like that for 3 years now & never needed to call for a refill. When Mack calls UHC he might want to check on how hw can get that service. The refills arrive way before needed

local pharm texts me, calls me, emails me to come and get it. while i am in the store picking it up, it is reminding me yet again. leave me alone.

I found with OptumRx, they refilled meds too soon. Too big containers for amount of medication. Could have opened my own pharmacy with the extra medications.

I get reminders from CVS, but they are always at least a month early. I only have a few Rx’s. I don’t like using auto refills either. They are always way too early.

I got another email from UHC (supposedly UHC) yesterday reminding me it's time to refill a prescription, so again I called UHC, and the advocate that answered was very dismissive, and unwilling to take any information regarding the email to investigate whether it was from UHC or a scam.

So, I called the local Medicare insurance agent in town who signed me up with the plan to see what she knew about it. She confirmed that UHC has indeed started the practice of email reminders for prescription refills. She said if I don't want those emails, it would be easier to just delete them rather than trying to get them stopped.

This is not to say you will start receiving those kinds of emails yourself. You probably won't, if none of your prescriptions are going through UHC. If you're only using GoodRX for all your prescriptions, UHC probably wouldn't know when it's time for a refill.

I didn't know GoodRX had a monthly plan for $9.99. I only used a coupon once from them for an expensive antibiotic, because I was able to get a better price through GoodRX than UHC. However, my three regular prescriptions that I take every day are: Lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide, Doxazosin, and Finasteride. All of those are tier 1, which are at no cost to me on my UHC plan.

@MACKTEXAS maybe if you're worried about it then just report them as spam. that might be the safest option.

here the past couple days i've been bombarded with emails supposedly from empower which is our 401k company. the email addresses are not from empower so i went ahead and reported them as spam.

So glad I read your post. I just got a similar text from Aetna. I thought it was odd and now I'm suspicious. I will call them, but not through the link they provided.

All mine are filled at Walmart, and they call me, now all these emails from insurance.
I asked the agent in town why UHC does it, because it costs them money to pay for refills. She said a lot of seniors might forget and have a major health event, which would cost the plan more money than paying for prescriptions.

Mine are filled at Walmart as well but we seem to be dealing with a different situation.
Side note;: I'm glad I'm at Walmart because both CVS and Walgreen's have closed in my neighborhood.

I opened the UHC emails but did not click on the link. The new information you provided raises more concerns that the emails I got may not be legitimate either. But you said "text". I didn't get a text, but then again, I might, so thanks for the heads up. I won't click on ANYTHING.

Good idea. Better safe than sorry.
