Does anyone know if Dilettante is okay ?

I have not seen @dilettante posting for maybe a whole month now, and he is usually in conversations here almost every day; so i am getting really concerned.
As far as i know, he was not having any specific medical issues, and he absolutely has great contributions to all the threads he posts in; so he has always been one of my favorite online friends on this forum.

Oh dear ! I hope not ! I don’t remember him ever saying anything that should have gotten him banned , ever . Even if I didn’t agree with his POV, I always thought it was presented in a gentlemanly and intelligent fashion.
 
Bans are usually just temporary , right ? Unless the person is a spammer or outright attacks other members of the forum ? I can’t imagine what Dilettante could have done to offend someone enough to be just immediately permanently banned without any warnings to change their behavior, or given a temporary ban, like I have heard others here mention having.
Is this a temporary ban, @Matrix ?

I was told that we are not allowed to post/talk about bans and reprimands. Are we allowed that?
 
Matrix has recently been very clear that he's tired of politics and rudeness. By my observations, some of the people who've recently been banned have frequently been guilty of one or the other or both.

Although this forum disallows political posts, a lot of thinly veiled political threads show up that encourage and provoke responses that dance on the edge.

I'm increasingly on my guard about these and am getting better at spotting the provocateurs and not opening the thread. It's too easy to get sucked in.

I noticed that Dilettante had not been present for a while. He used to be very active on the forum. I seldom shared the same opinion as him but he was an important part of the forum discussions and I enjoy reading different perspectives and points of view.
I also noticed that Twostep is missing. I used to read her posts on cats as she is such a cat lover.
I hope both posters are alright.

Oh I didn't mean to worry anyone. I just meant it was sad that she was banned and yes all indications point to banning. I had grown to like her very much, she could be very supportive and kind, but I was also on the receiving end of a few of her lectures and saw her be quite rude from time to time, so reading the link in Star Song's post, written by Matrix on her last day here, it's pretty clear what must have happened.

I think Matrix is spot on in his decision making, so I'm not questioning that at all. It's just that, as someone who sometimes speaks before I think, I feel sorry for others who have the same problem.

I have him on ignore so I wouldn’t know if he was here or not. However, I have been sucked in a few times and gotten political and been banned for periods of time. I am trying to be really careful now that does not happen again and to respect the rules of this forum. I can discuss politics on other forums.
