Moving to a new residence...

Thats something to think about. I like it here where Im at now.
I dont plan on moving till Im too old to get outside to cause trouble.
At that time it would depend on how feeble I am.

Truthfully I have a two story but I can live comfortably on the first floor. The tipping point
will probably be when it gets too expensive to hire maintenance on my large yard and my personal care.

Probably someplace smaller with most things on the first floor. And storage for my holiday stuff.
I prefer an older house or one that looks old. Dont care for ranch houses or split levels.
I like to see my neighbors but I dont want them in my face. :D

The last time I moved was four years ago when I sold my house and bought a condo. I actually made up a wish list of everything I wanted and did not expect to get everything. I was on a time crunch because my house sold immediately and I needed to find a condo fairly quickly.

Within a week of looking at condos I saw one online that was exactly what I wanted. It needed some work, but it had everything on my wish list. I was the last person to see it and I made an offer immediately. There were six offers and I got into a bit more but I got the Condo.

The things on my wish list were facing the courtyard and being on the top floor and having the long view, being away from the pool, a certain builder because I knew those condos were very quiet, a remodeled kitchen and hardwood floors. I actually couldn’t believe how lucky I got. Anything else that I didn’t like my son remodeled for me.

In theory, where I live is almost perfect. Walkable, quiet, paid for. What I don’t have is easy access to specialists and having assistance from family that may be needed sooner than expected.

So I’d like smaller and no maintenance. I would hate to give up the walkability and quiet. That comes with a high price in huge cities.

I live in a house that suits my needs but I don't like maintaining it. An apartment with a balcony on any floor except the ground floor would suit me fine. But rent that was $800 a month a few years ago is $1500 a month today, and may be $3000 a month within the next 2-3 years. So selling my house and moving to an apartment is not in my plans.

When we moved to this area, my husband was still working. We needed a home situated at close proximity to major highways and not far from a major airport.
Through the years I have been in charge of doing the research to find us a nice home, as we had to relocate for his work quite a few times. I love to look at real estate, so this task became a pleasure for me!
I look for a quiet neighborhood with well maintained homes from a reputable builder. We like a location close to shopping, and medical facilities.
A single story home, not too big but comfortable and easy to maintain. We like the master bedroom to face the back of the house and away from the living area. We like screened lanais in front and back of the house. We like quiet appliances in the kitchen as well as in the laundry room.
We like a large kitchen, a large 2 car garage, and plenty of storage space. We also like our home to be mortgage free.
As this home is located in Florida, we like to have natural gas in the kitchen and a whole home generator for peace of mind.
We also like a good insurance company that will cover us well for storms and sink holes!
This is a gated 55 plus community. I enjoy it and would have difficulty to go back to a family oriented community.
We have a lot of greenery and space, walking trails, social hall with activities, pool, tennis, pickleball courts, bocce, etc...
This is not necessarily needed but appreciated.
I like that the HOA maintains all grounds, including my lawn. It is reasonably priced and it is financially secure.

You have thought about this a lot to be that detailed and specific. It sounds very nice.

I forgot to mention that as our community is a 55 plus, we benefit from a nice property tax break and we do not have a CDD. (Community Development District that can be quite expensive in this area and is becoming more and more common).

So many posts of members’ great homes has me wondering, am I'm the only one without one? My residence consists of me living alone in a first floor apartment. Small back porch. No using basement washer dryer—3 steps down to landing just before basement steps are too high for me to chance using because of no railing to steady my essential tremor shaky legs enough. Have wooden slats fenced in back yard.

This is an old 2 apartment house on a fairly busy street. Built in 1923—I think. Over the years, many people have rented the upstairs apt. and what a mind blowing experience that has been. The 6’4’ young guy living upstairs now seems intelligent and very nice. From the heavy duty jackets of his I’ve seen in the communal hallway look like for fireman/rescue. Well there you have it

Nope. I have been thinking the same thing, lol. My house is small (1100 sf) and what I call "modest". I actually live in only half of it; the other half is almost always closed off. Nothing very expensive. It was a fixer upper when I bought it two years ago and lots has been done to it but nothing I would call luxurious, rather very practical and livable.

What I love most is it is rural, neighbors are not too close and mind their own business. The forest, the creek running, the weather is fantastic in summer. The one thing I would change is that damned squirrel that is driving my little spaniel crazy.

one floor living, huge shower, wide doorways, low maintenance, great sweeping views, bedroom in the back where it is quiet... all considerations when we moved.

We ended up with a new build villa that has all that - and two bedrooms and a bath upstairs. Grandkids and other family members can visit and stay over, but we don't have to go up there much.

No, you're not the onlyone without one. For so many years, we lived in a very old house with less than 1000 square feet, 2 small bedrooms, and 1 bath. It was what's called a "post war home." Even so, we got a good sale price since it was in Dallas and property values had gone way up there. In 2008, we bought the house I have now for $65,000, the price at that time, because we wanted something better and bigger for retirement. It needed a new shower and carpet, and a few minor repairs for a total cost of around $10,000. We did not install new cabinets in the kitchen or today's style of new tile floors.

It has a bit less than 2000 square feet, and comparable homes are selling here for around $250,000 now. Even though everything is in good repair and working order, buyers would want newer styles inside and probably wood flooring, so they wouldn't offer full price. I don't care about those things - as long as my house is clean, doesn't need paint or repairs, I'm fine with it.

Where I am is pretty much perfect for me, one living level with loft upstairs where I can put guests but normally just use as a sewing room. I have a covered porch, front and back, and a deck that joins the back porch to the guesthouse. The only thing I could wish for would be some conveniences that would be found in town, but the trade off is worth it.

Where I am is a perfect place. Over 60 apartment building. One bedroom, laundry facilities on site. Fair rent based on income. Totally accessible to those of us with mobility issues. There is a bus that comes round once a week to take those who do not drive to the grocery store. Very secure....you need a key fob to get inside.
Security is a big issue
