Notes from Pappy's diary

Remember when we had those horizontal, expandable screens. You lifted your window, set it on the ledge and then adjusted the size.

I’m shocked that your place doesn’t have screens in the windows.

I had them in my previous house. The trouble with them was bugs could still sneak their way in.

I had posted this on Facebook a while ago. Hope it gives you a smile.
I don't usually pass on news like this. I know how busy you all are but sometimes we have to pause and truly remember what life is about...so pass on this sad, sad news. . . There was a great loss today in the entertainment world. The man who wrote the song "Hokey Pokey" died. What was really horrible is that they had trouble keeping the body in the casket.
They'd put his left leg in and.. .well, you know the rest

Today I need to take my to short blackout curtains to Staples to return to Amazon for credit. Must be returned by the 25th. The longer ones we got work great. No light gets through the window at all.

Thelma’s doctor appointment yesterday. It was 5 pm when we got out so took her out for breakfast. Yes, breakfast. We both do this sometimes as I usually don’t keep eggs in the house. Anyway, it was totally delicious and I took a photo of our meal.

A beautiful day for my walk this morning. 58 degrees and good clean fresh air. I walk around two large apartment buildings and step count is right around 1200 steps. It’s a good start to meeting my daily goal of 3500 steps. If the old bod didn’t hurt so much I’d try for 5000 steps.

Was dreading going to my VA podiatrist yesterday but it there wasn’t much pain on the big thick big toe. He told me most of my toes have a fungus and that’s why they get so thick. He ordered a solution to use on my toes daily.

Got a couple things from Amazon yesterday. Got my wife some slip on Sketchers. She loves them, and I got a new t-shirt.

My son, who just retired from the NSA, and DIL have been here for a visit for two days. They are headed upstate NY to visit Lori’s mother and then return to Maryland in a couple days. So good to see them again. We all went down to the Hudson River waterfront for supper last night. Good food and good times together.

Today later, is grocery pick up day. Send in my order and pick a time to be there and they will put it in the car for us. Much cheaper than Instacart which use to deliver to our home in Florida. Although Instacart was very handy will we were both home with knee replacement and me with broken wrist. Glad those days are behind us.

We visited an old Victorian home yesterday where my granddaughters art work is on display. What fantastic wood work in this home. The pictures don’t do it justice but I took a couple on the way out.

It’s a small thing to most folks but I haven’t had good sweet corn in 25 years. Florida corn sucks so we quit buying it a long time ago. Yesterday, we stopped at a farm stand and bought 6 ears of sweet corn. I microwaved it for lunch and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Slushed with butter and salt and piping hot. There will be more soon.

Picked up our groceries and put away as soon as we got home. Now…a wee bid of a nap. Thelma is already out like a light. 😴😴

Silver Queen @Pappy ?

Must have caught a bug somewhere. Many trips to the bathroom last night and stomach feels off too. No walking today so I’ll just take it easy and hope it’s only a 24 hour thing.

Rained hard during the night and a light rain right now. My daughter and wife went to a church breakfast yesterday morning which is good for Thelma as her dementia continues to progress. She needs lots of things to keep her busy and her mind active. God, how I hate this is happening to her. Just not fair as she is the kindness person to everyone. Before I start tearing up I’ll change the subject.

Online church this morning at 9 am and that’s pretty much my day. Good day to you all..Pappy

Feeling much better today. The “gotcha” bug didn’t last long. Thelma is okay now too.
Got to get ready for my walk but I wanted to show you the door curtains I bought. Love them as we get a nice breeze and so much more light in the living room. Pappy

Pappy I have door curtains that I bought in Spain, they're heavyweight, and really keep bugs out, and allow me to keep the back door open all day.. They are however not available in this country and I can't find any Spanish store which will send some to me..

We can get those that you have , which are nice.. but I prefer the heavier type....my daughter however has similar to your on her back door too....

You have probably already checked with Amazon. That’s where I bought these. We’ve had to close the door for the last two days as the temperature has been in the 90s.

Amazon doesn't have the one I want unfortunately I can only get them in Carefour in Spain or France and they don't send them to the UK... which is really annoying.

I can get those same ones you and my daughter have , but I prefer the Spanish style heavier weighter ones..

So much for going to Staples to return a couple items to Amazon and stopping at our bank to try to stop an automatic payment to our old HOA. I will never set up this type of payment again. To difficult to stop. Oh, the reason we didn’t get anything done is because it is 96 degrees out and just too hot for us old folks. Feels like we are in Florida again.

So, the wife is doing word games and I’m running down my iPad battery. Pappy

Today is grocery pick up day. Will go to CVS for a couple items and stop for our groceries at 2:30.
Not looking forward to Thursday as I have to be at VA hospital for a chemical stress test. It’s about a 40 minute drive and I have to be there at 9 am. 😴😴
I’ve had this test before and it’s not too bad. A couple minutes of discomfort and a hot flash that makes you want to pee.

Pretty much covers my day. Pappy

chemical stress test ... is that like the Ultra sound scan with contrast..?which always makes you think you need to pee...

Stress test over and I’m home. No problem with the nuclear stuff they put in me, just time consuming. First pictures of a normal heart, then return for more photos after stuff is in me. Long waits in between all these.
Next is pulmonary doctor August 6. Good to be home even if it is pouring out there.
Glad it's over with Pappy ☺️
